I chatted with a friend online and he suggest slapping the ground with one's tail as being kind of like a salute to attention. That kind of works as a militarization of tail whipping for challenges.

Yeah, imagine a score of Saurus Warriors, all standing perfectly in formation, whacking their tails to the ground and singing "Na na na naa na na naa na. Thunder!" Add in a Heaven's Lore Skink with Uranon's Thunderbolt for good measure.

This 1 hour documentary covers a lot of lizard "talk" from crests and dewlaps, like in skinks, to mouth gaping, body posture, head bobbing and mouth gaping like in saurus.....

Also colour change in skink is a primary form of communication as dictated by previous books

I can attest to what Axolotyl said, and I have given the head bobs a name in the short story I'm working on now; it's called "Proto-Saurian". Being that it's a very instictual form of communication (I would put it just a step above body language), all lizard-type creatures in the world should be able to understand the series of head bobs enough to communicate simple ideas, basic emotions, and common verbs. A series of silent bobs, twists, and tilts fill the role of hand signals with lizardmen trying to be sneaky.

Proto-Saurian... go ahead and use it in your next short story everyone!
