I will once I've got through most of my pile of shame (the result of buying quantities of stuff for other armies and game systems over the last year or so since lockdowns started to ease)...

Besides, if you look at my last couple of posts it's pretty obvious what's coming next ;)

Today is a momentous day, for it marks the beginning of a new army in my collection. At the foot of a Herdstone deep in uncharted, impenetrable forest, gather the first of a great Warherd the likes of which will have never been before seen by the inhabitants of Lustria!

First to emerge from the treeline is the Bray-Shaman Gor'rak Har, the Lurking Threat, master of commanding illusionary Grey Magic to sow terror and madness among his wretched foes:
    IMG_20220430_192719.jpg IMG_20220430_192731.jpg IMG_20220430_192749.jpg IMG_20220430_192740.jpg
His cloak, stitched from the flayed flesh of Elf, Dwarf and Greenskin alike, is a warning to all who dare defy the Ruinous Powers.

He strikes the ground with his Braystaff three times, and bellows a call that resonates in the primal mind of every Beastman around.

The first to answer are the first ten members of the Meatcleavers, a band of Khornate Bestigors:
    IMG_20220430_192242.jpg
The five rear members of the unit:
    IMG_20220430_192128.jpg
Their Gouge-Horn, Skur'ruch Baneblade - the blood of many warriors of the weaker races is on his hands:

I really enjoyed painting these, something really different to everything I've done before. I bought two more shades of brown - Doombull Brown and Gorthor Brown - for the occasion, plus some brand-new brown flock, which you can see on their bases. I'm most pleased with the effect it gives, I wanted something that clumped more than the other flock and grass I have, to better represent dead leaves and underbrush, and I think it certainly succeeds in doing that. And praise the Gods (both my own Celtic deities and the Chaos Gods) for my big pot of Agrax Earthshade, which has really done an excellent job in bringing these lads to life and giving them the decades of filth that would come from living The Beast Life. I'm also pretty pleased with the green smoke emanating from the piles of skulls, that was all thanks to Hellion Green, and adds a nice spot colour that contrasts strongly with the rest of the paint scheme.

That's half of my Start Collecting Box complete, I'll be working on something different next, but the rest of it will follow soon enough!

Cheers, yes I'm very pleased with how the flesh-cloak turned out - I wanted it to resemble patchwork of the skins of races from some of my other armies to tie my Beastmen in with my other collections, and it was worth the large amount of patience required to dab Steel Legion Drab onto all the individual stitches with a tiny brush! A wash of Reikland Fleshshade completes the rotting flesh effect perfectly.

It's me again, with a minor update - over the past many months, as well as my unit painting, I vowed to paint my Dwarf wall and carts from the magnificent Battle for Skull Pass box and the Miners kit... and here they are!
    IMG_20220524_141150.jpg IMG_20220524_141139.jpg IMG_20220524_141118.jpg IMG_20220524_141105.jpg
The top one is from the Miners box (in case you haven't been paying attention I converted the other one into a Flame Cannon) and the latter was from Battle for Skull Pass. Speaking of which...
    IMG_20220524_141217.jpg IMG_20220524_141207.jpg

You may notice that my version of the King's Wall is bigger than it appeared in the box... that's the result of me expanding it with a standard on a base and a wheelbarrow full of blasting charges from the Miners kit, as I thought the wall on its own, as great a scenery piece as it is, was a little too short to protect a missile unit more than 5 models wide. I thought the Dwarfs would be adamant to ensure their ground is claimed with a standard, and the barrow would hint at the wall being subject to extension. I could even include a house rule that any unit that moves into base contact with the wall can use Dwarf Miner Blasting Charges for as long as it remains there!

Wow! These look incredible! Reminds me that I should put some paint to mine! Might be handy to have for D&D. Brilliant colour scheme, the wagons stay consistent but the ponies have some great variations.

Cheers Bowser mate! That was my intention - I used the same colour scheme (an old Humbrol enamel gunmetal paint for most of the cart, my usual gold for the dragon heads and Ancestor faces and Vermin Brown for the knotwork at the top and bottom) for the carts and aimed to make the ponies as different as possible - one white, one brown and the one pulling my Flame Cannon is black, mainly because my perfectionism wouldn't allow them all to be in any way similar ;). The carts will make some great objectives for Warhammer Fantasy battles involving Dwarfs - to be protected or rescued by their bearded masters and captured by any other race.

It's been a while since I had last finished something, has it not? Well, that's because I've had frakloads to paint, and here's a good green portion of it!

First up, ten kitbashed Arrer Boyz - comprising Ork Boyz I bought second-hand from one of my favourite model shops, plus bows from both the Savage Orc and 5th Edition Night Goblin kits, and loosing hands from the latter kit:
    IMG_20221130_110520.jpg IMG_20221130_110644.jpg IMG_20221130_110827.jpg IMG_20221130_110952.jpg

A Black Orc Big Boss from the old 7th Edition Orc Warboss 2-pack (also bought second-hand) - one of the very first plastic Warhammer character models:

A Warboss on Boar from the same kit:

Three Night Goblin Fanatics (taking my collection of them up to 9 - enough for the maximum of 3 for all 3 of my Night Goblin units):

A standard bearer for my Orc Boy unit with Additional Choppas (I got him with the Arrer Boyz - the standard bearer I assigned to the unit came with the Choppa Boyz and I wanted to swap the standard bearers over):

And lastly, but certainly not least, a Doom-Flayer for my Skaven, made using some pieces of cardboard cut to shape and with assorted blades from various kits stuck to it (the struts that allow the machine to be pushed along by the potentially-suicidal crewrat are two bits of sprue):

It's been a while, hasn't it? I haven't had chance to update you on the outcome of my latest painting triumphs.

I've gone back to my historicals and painted and based ten more Early Imperial Legionaries, and applied shield transfers to the twenty I have completed so far:
    IMG_20230527_094613.jpg

Plus at the same time I completed some more Britons:
    IMG_20230527_094714.jpg

Though I've still got a good lot more to finish for both sides, with twenty more Legionaries and a Scorpion currently unmade, and 16 Auxiliaries plus a load more British Warriors and some slingers to be sprayed and painted.

But before I get to work on those, I have other legions to awaken...
