Blog Lord Marcus' 2025 Blog

If I didn't get any painting done this last weekend, because I was out doing medievalist stuff. Provided to the kingdom level group locally.

I've been building stuff from my pile of opportunity me in the meantime. Mainly Romans, because I'm on a roll with the Foederati.

So that post got cut off. Surprisingly. That award was for service to the state level group, called the kingdom in our parlance. I made a whole bunch of safety equipment for our fencers and was awarded a service award as you can see.

Our awards are normally painted "scrolls" similar to what you would find in a medieval manuscript.

It is most definitely a great way to get acknowledged and it is a very enjoyable group. You make plenty of friends. I have to say it's my tribe. If that makes sense

You don't have to. Everyone's welcoming to watch the progress and talk about it. Or just talk about history, fun projects that you've seen me work on or other stuff. This is my home thread and my hangout place. Though I do enjoy spending time on the forum and other threads.
I meant that as comedic relief of me not realizing. :)

An illustration in how much of a model actually gets covered by a shield.

Limitanei, made by combining Wargames Atlantic Dark Age Army Builder bodies with late Roman (1) lorica Hamata heads and shields.

And if you're wondering about the Foederati project, All remaining 48 Shields have been painted. They will be glued in the morning and then I will start the long process of basing 96 Infantry.PXL_20250914_062043866.jpg PXL_20250914_062436494.jpg

The legiones unit update.

I finished eight more spearmen today.

3 more plumbata elements and 5 more elements of back rank spearmen and it's done.

1 problem. No matter how I placed the figures, the first ranks leveled spears stick out past their base and impact with the second ranks shields. Oh well.

Only 26 more for this unit.

Honestly I'm doing different units, some of which historically would not have fought together in normal circumstances.

It's when I start making multiples of this unit, and ones with swords, that the legion will truly come together.

A very fun project nevertheless.
