Lost Temple Bases and Carnosaur from ManicWorkbench

Re: Lost Temple Base for Stegadons

After being busy lthe last few days, tonight I have been sculpting again.

WIP+Lost+Temple+50x50+25x25mm+18.08.2010.jpg

The vines are done, the plant in the upper right corner of the 50x50mm base needs more work, and the snake is in obvious need of a head.

Later today I´ll finish the job and then make a mold to cast them. And I have already some sketches for 40x40mm bases...

I´ll post better pictures when I´m finished and have some natural daylight.

Re: Lost Temple Base for Stegadons

Please excuse the double post.

All the WIP bases are done.

I hope you like them.

And I made the first mould, and already taken a test shot. The cast is not perfect, but I am very confident that the next casts will be better.

I´ll also make moulds for the other bases in the next few days.

So expect pictures of painted bases in the near future. I can´t wait to paint them :D

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Good job making your first mold,
it looks like all the detail came out nice and crisp.

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Oh those are looking beautiful. I'm excited to see the final painted results. Once you're satisfied with the casts, I imagine there would be a few people who would be interested in buying some molds from you. That is of course if you don't mind your minis not being unique. :)

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Very nice work, and I too wonder if you would be selling copies of them. :)

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Those look great! I'll have to have a go at Milliput myself!

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Once again mate, it looks pretty awesome!

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Cheers guys! I really appreciate it.

Tonight I painted the first cast. It´s a quick paintjob, since it is only a testshot, but I think it looks good enough and shows the details better than the green.

@ ericb & strewart: Yes, I´ll sell casts in the near future. Over the weekend I´ll cast the remaining bases, order more silicone and resin, etc. I am not worried about my miniatures being unique, the idea of other gamers liking my work well enough to use them for their armies seems much grander anyway :D

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Wow those paint up great. :D

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Glad to hear you're willing to cast some for us manic! If that's what they look like after a 'quick' paint job, I'm entirely inclined to say that a 'final' paint job would be utterly beautiful :)

Really killer work man!

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Well I'm quite interested in buying some of those bases if you're selling em :p

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Thanks for the inspiration manic. I've just done up a test base in the same style, and I'm really happy with how it looks, and the relative easy of doing so. I think I might do all the tile off the base, in one large sheet, then cut it up after wards. This will let the bases all look like part of one larger slab, instead of a bunch of tiny ones that they happen to be standing directly on top of, which would work better for blocks, imo.

I'll have pics of it posted on my blog shortly.

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Hmmm I would also be very interested in purchasing an item or two ;) But first I think I'll give your instructions a shot!

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

I´m glad you like ´em.

The mould for the 25x25mm bases is done.

The 50x50mm one needs a bit more work, the plant in the corner has too many undercuts, and I am currently fillling those in. I can´t have the mould tearing, now can I? :D

Also, I ordered a new batch of resin. As soon as it arrives I can start casting the bases.

Re: Lost Temple Bases from ManicWorkbench

Hooray :)

I apologize for the lack of updates, I haven´t had as much time to devote to my projects as I would have liked to.

The lost temple bases can now be ordered. I will create an email-adress for this purpose (don´t want my main adress bombarded with spam), but for now please feel free to contact me via PM.

On another note:
I always thought the GW carnosaur to be lacking. He does not seem like the super-predator the fluff makes him out to be.

Enter the Carnosaurus workbenchii, the true apex predator of the lustrian fauna.

WIP+Trex+11.09.2010.jpg

The model is still very much WIP, it is merely the basic shape that I have sculpted so far.
Once I am done with the basic shape, I´ll add another layer of clay, in which I´ll sculpt the creases, folds and skin texture.

I hope you like my work, criticism and comments are as welcome as always.

PM sent :)

This stuff is fantastic! I'm lovin the carny so far, It's gonna look killer when it's done!

Is that a chaos dwarf I see next to the last picture of the carnosaur? ;)

Seems like a great idea to me, can't wait to see more of him as he progresses!

Carnosaurus workbenchii is well known for firecly defending it´s hunting grounds against intruders, like it´s distant cousin, the carnosaurus notthinghamii.

Teeth and tongue finished. The head is shaping up as well.

Is that a chaos dwarf I see next to the last picture of the carnosaur?
Yeah, it is a painted testshot of one of my chaos dwarves.

Please excuse the double post, but I´d like to share this update:

WIP+Trex+23.09.2010.jpg

It is still WIP, mind you. There is still much to be done, and most sculpting is still very rough. The polymer clay I use cures once baked, which allows me the great luxury of not having to finish the entire skin in one 45 minute session :D.

Just wanted to share this, I am happy with the results so far, and sine this is the first time I try my hand at such a large model I´m very excited.

Critics and comments are as welcome as always.
