This was fun and a great way to get a unit painted. I look forward to the next one.

Hey all, the poll has now ended! The winner for the contest is Craken with his saurus converted with savage orcs! Congratulations, Craken! You win a 20GBP voucher on the Mantic website.

To everyone else, thank you for participating, I hope you enjoyed it. I am not just saying it when I mention that the competition was really strong, every entry was to a very very good standard and I am pleased to see such a great standard of skill on the board! It was extremely difficult choosing who to vote for.

And remember, everyone who submitted an entry, you can get a free sprue of Mantic models sent to you as a participation prize! Can everyone please PM me with:

And I'll get it sorted out as soon as I can.

Finally, I'd like to once again thank the guys at Mantic Games for their support of this painting challenge, they are a great company producing some really nice 28mm models at very good prices.

congratulations Craken!!! Very sweet conversion! And to all the other participants. Wonderful work! Really!! It wasn't easy at all for me to pick only 2 as I had s-e-v-e-r-a-l I really liked! 2 skink-thumbs up!

Congratulations Craken. Very nice conversion work. You should send that picture into GW too. You could be the next one of us to wind up in a GW email/website/magazine.

Thanks guys, I didn't want to say anything before this ended, didn't wanna jinx it. I really appreciate the votes, and honestly if it hadn't been for the contest I don't think I would have had the motivation to finish it. Again thank you everyone. Glad you like it, hope to get some more pics up soon of them on my blog here.

Also thank you Mantic games can't wait to order myself some undead from there to boost my Vampire Count army :)

Great work Craken - a well-deserved win. And that's a real achievement because, the quality was very high top to bottom. My Boar Boyz didn't do very well in the voting, but I don't feel bad at all considering the excellent models that won.

I'll echo the thanks to Mantic for the prize support and I also want to thank Strewart for arranging things with Mantic. This was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next contest.

I really liked your boar boys, can't remember if I voted for those and the skinks I believe. Good job to both of you I think they looked great as well.

@MI_TIGER: Your boar boys were my 3rd pick, and could've have easily been 2nd. The quality of the models was just so high, you can be VERY proud of that unit, it looks awesome.

@Craken: Congratulations on a job very well done!!! It' such an original conversion and the paint job really does the work justice.

@Everyone else: We'll be starting a new contest soon, we need your input on what we should do next. I know Strewart wants to participate in the next one so I'll be handling it. If you have any suggestions, please send me a PM so I can get a new thread rolling soon and we can have another great painting challenge!!!

Congrats to Craken and everyone who entered; I was blown away by the standard of the entries!

Awww, my poor Spider Riders, they started off strong but then toward the end no one liked them anymore :( I still love you my little Spideys!

Anyway, congrats to all, all the entries were of a really high standard. When I saw all the other entries I wasn't expecting to get any votes at all :P

The next logical contest would be a monster model, though I dont know how well that would go, I doubt it'd get as many entries simply because less people would be willing to commit to buying then painting a big expensive model.

Lots of people may have an unpainted/unassembled monster lying around, I know I have quite a few. :P I'd be up for that, I've been meaning to do my EotG conversion for a long time, even though its no longer effective in games.

Also in a bias way, I have a BSB that needs painting so I'd be up for a BSB challenge. And I know SeBM tossed around the idea of a mage challenge with Storm of Magic here before I rudely bustled in and made it a unit challenge. :)

Indeed part of the reason I gave people two votes was to try to spread votes around a little more, since last time pretty much the best entry got loads and the rest got basically nothing. There was certainly a lot more than 1 that deserved votes here.

I have to say I think the spider riders look fantastic even though I didn't end up voting for them. And the charmeleon skinks look great, but the thing that stopped me voting for them was the white base edges. I don't think white really suited the dark swampy nature of the models, especially with the glossy black unit base.

I've been receiving a lot of suggestions for the next contest and that's great! Once I get a couple more, I'll open a voting thread so everyone can help decide which challenge will be next. In the meantime, keep them suggestions coming :D.

@ AllSeeingSkink: Like I told MI_Tiger, Most entries could have won a similar contest had the competition not been so high. Your spirder riders were really nice. I think what made me vote for something else in the end is that while the whole unit was excellent, I would've have love to see a tad bit more color on the golbins. But hey, I don't even finish my own stuff, who am I to comment on other people's work :D.

Yeah, I'm not disappointed with the result, I was just being silly ;) The Spiders were painted to fit into a large horde army which is why I kept the colour variation down. I find hordes look best with 2 brightish primary colours which tie the army together (in my case green skin with red highlights) then 1 or 2 secondary colours (like browns or darker/duller colours) to keep the horde looking cohesive. Though since this was for a painting contest I should have been more adventurous. After painting the first 5 goblins (as I painted them in batches of 5) I regretted not using a 2nd brown for the loincloth and a different colour for the feather, but oh well, they turned out well and I think they did well considering the competition.

A couple of comments on the other entries that I thought looked like they deserved more votes than they got...

I really liked the orange skinks, the standard of painting was really high, I think they were let down by the base, the strong contrast between black and white on the base took away from the subtle contrast on the actual model, and indeed each individual skink base is done brilliantly. The skinks were my personal favourite, but I didn't even notice how great they were until a 2nd or 3rd glance because of that. I'm sure they would have gotten more votes if you'd photographed them on a pure white sheet because the models themselves look awesome.

I also liked the Ghouls, but they didn't make the short list for my voting because I couldn't see them clearly enough. They look good, but you can't tell from the pictures supplied. I think if you'd set up an area which got indirect natural lighting to cut down on the reflections and improve the colour separation in the photography, it would have highlighted the great work you did painting them, because they do look good, its just hard to see in the photos.

I also thought the Boar Boyz were great, they would have been my 3rd choice. There were just so many great entries, I feel previlaged the Spider Riders got the 10 votes they did, especially since they were basically (carefully) speed painted.

To update this, thanks to everyone for getting your details to me, I now have everything and have passed them onto the guys at Mantic. I'll update you if I hear when everything is going through.
