Most of the paints I'm using are walmart/Joann fabrics brand. I'm hoping the army painter paints arrive today.

Struggling to get a decent looking dark to light gradient. I feel there is too much white and not enough building up to it.

I'm trying not to get too picky and hungup on some of these painting issues. These are the first models I've painted in about ten years, so I know it'll take a while to build up my skill set. :)

Oh. Oh no. Those tend to flake.

Do you have a hobby store in your area?

Couple of things you can do, drybrush a brown on at the bottom or apply a shade but when you do the shade apply it were it meets the gold then pull it up the horn, just do small inverted “V’s”

Closest hobby store is an hour drive, I tend to order most stuff online. The reviews for army painter seemed decent. Hopefully I have less trouble fighting those paints.

That's what I've been trying to do, but I haven't quite managed to get the technique down. One of these days... ;)

    They are, which is perfect!
(except for speed painters like you that is).

Also something SUPER IMPORTANT with army painter colors:
Shake like hell before using. Consider buying a cheap nail lacquer shaker or so (that's what I did).
I am very happy with the Army Painter colors, but just shaking them a bit is not enough.

I think I'm done with the carnosaur for now. At some point in the future I might come back and straighten up some more details, but I'm itchin' to get some of my troops done. :)

What are the two white spots on the flank above the rear left leg?

I'd do a couple more on the leg. To simulate climbing?

Ah, gotcha. In that case, I would recommend 1 more, because I'm a fan of markings in 3's. Looks cool though!

The first saurus is done. Mostly used him as a test model to figure out if my paint scheme looks good. In retrospect I need to put a bit more into drybrushing the scales, and probably substitute nuln oil for a more brown looking wash. Overall quite pleased with myself and real happy with these army painter paints. :)

    Looking good!
You could probably give the bigger scaled parts on the back another wash to improve the contrast a bit more, but that's a perfectly usable Saurus Warrior right there. :)

Drybrush the scales then wash with dark blue but thin it a bit (bit thicker than a glaze) so it runs off the scales into the recesses it will enhance the look.

Found a good deal on eBay.
    1524857784436-1947961780.jpg

Now I've got all this, plus finishing the SC box, my old slann mage priest, and old stegadon model. Guess I'd better get to work!

Sidenote, is it better to build terradons or ripperdactyls? Is the bastiladon better as an ark of sotek or solar engine?

Are you asking for AoS or old fantasy, or some other system?

    Also: good haul!

AoS. It seems like the easiest to get into. Convinced my roommate to grab some models, so we could give it a go. Hopefully he enjoys it so I'll have someone to play with, haha.
