Does the discipline that grants a Slann Magic Resistance help protect it from the damage caused by miscasts in 8th edition?

I don't think that the magic resistance applies. It could though, unless the result that you roll says it ignores ward saves.

If it does apply, it would make taking soul of stone very popular for the re-roll on the miscast table.

pretty sure when flicking through my rb that magic resistance is only usuable agaisnt direct damage type spells so wouldnt of thought usable agaisnt miscasts

Magic resistance works on spells, miscasts are not spells.

but it doesnt say that you cant use ward saves from the miscast. or at least i cant find it.

You can use the 4+ ward save on the Slann, but not the stacked ward save from MR.

Which is one of several reasons the Slann is now such a beast in the magic phase. Higher toughness than other lord level wizards, more wounds and a 4+ save makes them Bullfrogs of death.

at least we get that. im thinking running slaan solo focus, soul stone and ethereal with cupped hands and
something else lol. go for a big spell at least once, pass it off and play conservative.

With soul of stone you wouldn't have to play as conservatively, especially if he's running solo. With 5 wounds and a 4+ ward, it would take a lot of miscasts to bring down the Slann. The one exception is of course the instant kill miscast, though even that is only fatal 1/2 the time. And you can just reroll if you get that one.
