Malign Portents

Sigmar's been getting his ass kicked for too much for this to work though. And the SCE are already sigmar's supersoldiers as an anwser to the threat of chaos.. we can't exactly keep on pulling superder super soldiers out of sigmar's ass all the time. It'd just be bad writing and we all know GW doesn't do that.

In all seriousness though, using the slann for it would fit near perfectly. They're strange beings with godlike magical power who's only purpose is to maintain "the great plan" which as best we lesser mortals can tell seems to revolve around balance. They're the best deus ex machina that's completly valid in-universe you can wish for. Hell, they even have an excuse for leaving again the moment Nagash has been banished. They don't need to do such silly things like build a giant fortress to stand guard over Nagash should he try such nonsense again. They can literally just show up, fix shit and go back to contemplating the universe and it'd all make perfect sense fluff-wise.

But but what if Nagash conquering all is part of the great plan?

well then we're boned I suppose :P

But yeah, I'd like it if they used Slann's as the reset button for every major campaign. It'd feel correct, and doesn't necesarly lower the stakes that much. It just means the world as a whole stays intact, but kingdoms can be destroyed and the story can progress.

I just read through the most recent three stories.
Not bad.
(And even the Slann are mentioned. Well... in one sentence that is. Their magic is shielding the Order army marching toward the black pyramid)

If they are casting something, then They clearly are not summoning anything... :meh:

I'm mildly dissapointed it took multiple slanns to cast a magic shield that apparently did nothing whatsoever… also, why did the chaos and destruction armies lack any sort of magical defenses. Mentioned explicitly like this is somehow worse than if not at all..

Loved that it actually was Gulgaz who broke through Nagashizzar and caused all this mayhem!

IN all the malign portents stories arc, we have:
- undead as main force (logical and finally due)
- SCE as main force (logical but annoying… at least we have some characterization)
- new armies as co-protagonist with many stories (daughters of Khaine, Idoneth deepkin)
- all the other armies are just sidekick, with variable time-screen. KO, Sylvaneth and Fyreslayers (all relatively new armies) got their own story.
We have one too, but nothing great.

The dead are rising by the billions across reality. The Stormcast keep overshadowing all other factions. The ruinous powers are on the back foot. Orks are apparently going too become the saviors of the mortal realms, but even with all these things happening let's never forget all who have wronged us (this week at least).

So, what grudges have we faced this week that needs to be settled?

AoS fans better hope not. Otherwise every release will be either Stormcast Eternals or Chaos Stormcast Eternals. All the other armies will be forgotten.
Meh, at that point why bother with maintaining a fantasy-line at all….

I wouldn't be happy about Chaos SCE either.
