Today's #conversioncorner for my Guild Myrmidian project is a way to make use of leftover arms from the halfling monk project from yesterday. The dwarves who trade in Talabhiem and Talabecland as a whole do not shy from trade with the cult of Myrmidia. Indeed the guild myrmidian purchases much of its armor from dwarven smiths. In their downtime many of these dwarven tradesmen fight in the hall of fists, sacred training grounds for Myrmidia's followers attached to every temple. From simple training posts outside a community shrine to a full training complex in Magritta (Estalia) across from the Archecclesiatium (main temple) of Myrmidia, all adherents are expected to keep themselves ready to fight. Regardless of the size of the venue, all are welcome to hone their skills under the auspice of the Goddess of War's holy ground, with any weapon imaginable (though Spears are of course favored.) Betting is natural, but is limited to fistfights by custom. In this, dwarves excel, often leveraging their considerable dwarven toughness to withstand their opponent like a granite cliff face. In the event of a raid or hasty defense, those fighting in the hall of fists will take up makeshift armament and defend themselves. - - - - - Einherjar from Wargames Atlantic and mantic goblin arms.
Aftermath: This is my test model for an interpretation of "ogre berserker braves" for kings of war. In my mind, these are ogres the Fist Myrmidian has hired out to other temples and cities for protection. Such as these headsmen. Either for Morr, or more likely the city of Talabhiem itself. So, all the granulation is gone after a bath in paint stripper. However, a thin layer of the primer did bond with the minis surface. I've had this happen with other models that were blasted with a bad can of spray. The thin layer of primer usually is not an issue, and I will re-prime him and paint him soon. That would have been today, but for rain.
Made a decision, went with the plume variant size. The one I'm using below is slightly larger but for 1 figure with a larger plume than the rest I think it's an ok anachronism. Ogre Siege breaker conversion, stage 1. In an attempt to make a more armored look for the plastic landskneckt ogre infantry, I've been experimenting with helmets. Going forward, the neck joint is going to be filled and then I'm going to sculpt a Gorget over it. I'm also going to give him faulds to protect his hips. He's going to be used as a siege breaker for kings of war, so I'm going to be doing sword + shield for the armaments.
I got some stuff done today. Painted 5 gripping beast Saxons for my kings of war guild myrmidian army. These have Wargames Atlantic heads. I stuck those and the Xenophon I painted last month on a base to start my next shieldwall regiment. I also stuck the spearmen from earlier on the spear regiment to round it out. I finished basing the dwarf regiment, as shown earlier. I printed shields for the shield breaker ogre-knights. I also put the finishing touches on the headsmen ogre I've been working on, as you've seen above. Pictures to follow.
6 more gutrippas for my commission client. A bunch of other stuff WIP and there will be more updates tonight.
5 historicals for the guild myrmidian. 1 test paint job of a shield-swapped man-at-arms from mantic. 2 black orcs for Kevin
I present: the Tlacochcalcatl, or Master of the House of Darts. The Tlacochcalcatl was the second in command of the Aztec military next to the Tlatoani (king/emperor.) "Master of the house of Darts" refers to the four principal armories in Tenochtitlan. These were located at each of the four entrances to the temple precinct district. I specifically based this on the Codex Mendoza illustrations. I've included a composite that I found with these and an artist rendition. I'm going to use him as a command base for my Aztec army. He was made from the Wargames Atlantic Aztec plastic kit, with a head and back banner from Wargames Atlantic Digital.
