8th Ed. Monster Cav buffs.

G'day. I'm wondering which, if any, of these buffs would apply to the mounts in a monster cav unit. Wildform, hand of glory, timewarp and speed of light. Also same deal but with a Carnosaur. Light buffed Carnosaur would be RAWR!

hMMM....

Lizardmen don't have monsterous cav per say....
what we do have is characters on monsterous mounts, monstrous infantry,
regular cav, flying cav, monsters, and monsters and handlers.

(yea prety much everything ealse.)
 
So do these spells affect both parts of those models n810? I'm curious too! :)
 
I think (with some uncertianty) that buffs and hexes
effect the whole "model" witch is everything on the base.
While magic missles might have to choose or randomize
between a hero and a monsterous mount. :shifty:

So yea I think you where on the right track in the first post. :smug:
Buff the heck out of those units.

Ps. don't forget stegadon crews too.

Both terradons and ripperdactyls are classified as Monstrous cavalry.

They just happen to be flying, and have a tonne of other special rules as well.
 
All of those spells you've mentioned are Augment spells which target the whole unit. So yes, all the good stuff you think is going to happen will happen, both for Monstrous Cavalry and for the Oldblood on the Carnosaur.

Terradons and Ripperdactyls are Monstrous Cavalry ;)
 
Wyssans, speed of light, byronna's, flesh of stone , miasma, iceshard blizzar, hand of glory, and all that affects units modify all the unit stats, so it affect mounts of every kind.


The weird case is upon certain spells that focus on heroes. Like Savage Beast. You target one hero and the model gains a benefit. So where to apply? All the model of the targeted hero? Only the hero stats as I guess is intended?

I can use both interpretations and be equally reasoned. This is the magic of warhammer rules!

Character only: It targets a Character, it boost the character stats.
Whole model: It targets a Character but it says the benefit applies the model choosen. And the definition of model is the miniature.

Example: A orc chariot is a single model with 3 set of stats.
- Chariot stat with Strenght, Toughness , Wounds & Armour Save
- Boar stats with M,WS,Strenght, Initiative & Attacks.
- Orcs with WS, Strenght , Initiative , Attacks, Leadership.

So what to apply? Only character stats or as readed the "targeted model".

Because skink chief on regular steg with savage beast of horros applied to the model...
4xSkinks with S6 and 4 Attacks each
1x Stegadon with S8 and 7 attacks
1x Chief with S7 and 6 Attacks.

Well I just use only the hero stat because I feel it the real purpose of the spell. And what I never want in a warhammer games is an endless rules discussion :)
What do you think? Only hero stats or the whole model?
 
I spent a while looking around at peoples opinions on Beast and it seems, as far as I can tell, that it effects the mounts RAW. I wouldn't use it though, in interests of having a happy opponent. Carno would be ruinous with the extra attacks though.
 
RAW is clear, you target a hero, the model gets the benefit.

If done, the best target is chief on regular stegadon. As it have one more attack.
Youll gain like 12 extra atacks from skinks , 3 extra attack on the mount and 3 extra attack on the chief.

Sounds tempting to use. Yes... now im falling to the darkside... want to use it :S
 
It also affects the mount. The rules are pretty clear that a Ridden Monster counts as a single model.

“If a character has a ridden monster, the whole model is treated as having the troop type monster and thus follows all the rules for both characters and monster models.” (Emphasis mine)

You should absolutely get your 7 S10 attacks with your character buff. The whole model also becomes T8 when targeted with Pann's Impenetrable Pelt. Also, being a monster it goes off on a 9+ rather than 10.

Hold on now, doesn't the BRB contradict this by stating on page. 105, "We assume that special rules that apply to a ridden monster do not normally apply to the character riding it and vice versa." This is the paragraph of "Ridden Monsters and Special Rules."

Although I would LOVE to have a Toughness 8 Carnosaur rampaging through everything, I feel that this is an inappropriate interpretation of the rules. I would be thrilled to be proven wrong, btw.

Yeah, I found the paragraph that states "If a character has a ridden monster, the whole model is treated as having the troop type monster and thus follows all the rules for both characters and monster models." On page 105. Although I seriously doubt they meant for this to happen, I cannot find a suitable counter-argument. If this is allowed at Lonewolf my Carno Lord list just got a shit-ton scarier....
