I just got my copy of Monstrous Arcanum yesterday and was wondering if anyone else brought a copy?

It does have one Lizardman usable monster in it called the dread saurian, along with some very nasty upgrades. I must say it's sorely tempting to start Lizardmen again just so I can use one (ok so I'd need to wait for a model, I'll never have the time to sculpt one at this rate, especially as I already have four Lizardman pieces to sculpt).

Not sure how much info I can give away without risking IP or trouble, so all I will say is it's like a Daddy carnosaur, (in the same way you have emperor and great dragon upgrades). Plus the similar rules to the carnosaur, but again, upgraded.

So anyone else got one, want one, getting a copy of monstrous Arcanum?

Would it use the Carnosaur model?

You could, but given the rules/artwork it would be a bit like using a chiwawa as a proxy for a rottweiler.

Would a blurry pic of the art be out of the question..?

According to a guy on Heresy-Online:

It looks like a mix between a Carnosaur, Saurus and Kroxigor.... Not sure if I like the look, but this is artwork, not a model. It has a long snout... Might be more akin to a prehistoric crocodile/alligator than the modern ones Kroxigor are based off. I guess it's more like a Lizardmen version of a Spinosaurus, just like the Carnosaur was based off T-Rex...

Perhaps something like this?

That would make a pretty neat custom sculpt.

When you say Lizardmen useable, what do you mean? Are the monsters Storm of Magic entries or army list options?

No, doesn't look like that.

It's more like a larger scaled carnosaur with a more impressive tail, longer and thicker fore arms and a crocodile like head. It has loads of gold armour which is where the upgrades come in.

@N810, No, that wouldn't be very clever of me if I did, sorry but not risking it.

@Scalenex I mean it' a lizardman monster so you can take it in your LM army.

I do not have the book, but from what I have heard/seen:

You have bindings that allow you to take these monsters with your army (like storms of magic).
There is also a list in the book that states which of these monsters go with which army (to stay fluffy).

I did preorder the book, but didn't get it yet. Unless I really dislike the model I will probably reward myself with one when I've painted up a decent army of Lizardmen. Assuming it is out by then.

I don't expect to field anything out of MA in a competitive environment, but I play enough big casual games to have a use for pretty much anything.

I've not played storm of magic so am not 100% sure or aware of how you have to use binding scrolls to use certain monsters.

I have found a picture of the Dread Saurian online though.

Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj5F5HqbYZ0 at 2:23 you can see a much smaller photo of the dread saurian on the left, but it's not as impressive or detailed as the page it has explaining the stats and rules.

I have it now. :D

I can see what you mean about the upgrades. Being Ethereal is pretty nasty for a big beastie like that.
