If a character on a cold one joins a unit of saurus that are 4 models wide, does the character count as a model in both ranks and then makes two ranks of 5 models? I know its only one model but since it is US 2 I thought it might be worth asking.

I looked some in the rulebook but didnt find it, I'll looks some more though...

edit: I found out that its possible :D

Are you not worried about your character being singled out for shooting/magic etc if he is mounted in a non-cavalry unit?

You still get look out sir no matter what unit you join, so long as there are 5 rank and file models.

Well on reflection then probably safer in a saurus block than a 5 man cavalry unit

And as an added bonus, since the cold one causes fear it makes the entire unit immune to fear for only a few more points than what the saurus he replaced costs! Of course it does add stupidity, but what can ya do..

See id love to put mounted characters in my saurus blocks, but I just don't think it looks right.

Agreed, that is my main reason for not doing it. It looks a bit better with saurus since they are on 25mm bases and it takes up a clean 2 models, but when you are used to 20mm armies it looks very strange and doesn't really fit. If I had space in my army for a scar-vet I may consider it, but I don't anyway.

I always take a scar vet (especially a BSB) on cold one in my big block of saurus. Nothing is worse than wasting your cold blooded rule when you loose combat res by 1 to an outnumbering fear causing army. i think the unit looks fine, I'll try to post pics tonight.
