Hi, this is the first unit I've painted. I'm looking for tips to improve my painting. Tips to improve my macro photography are also welcome :)

Not bad, I rather like the blended bodies. :meh:

any chance of a picture of the back of the full unit? :smug:

I thought I recognized that color scheme. Very nice!

Ha, nice avatar! Does your army sport a similar color scheme?

Im with n810, I love the way you blended the two colors, great job!

Very nice blending. I haven't got the time or inclination to put that much effort into my figures but yours look great.

The time to get a good blend was a big concern originally going into this. I tried some wet blending with a brush on a couple models but it didn't look great and it took a long time. Then I found this:

I read up a little and found out the fade was done with an airbrush. So...I ordered an airbrush and got to work. Got the unit basecoated with a nice blend in about 20 mins from setup to cleanup. I'll have no problem getting a whole army painted to match.

Great job! How do you get into airbrushing? I've thought about it a bit but didn't know where to start.

Nice looking sauruses! I would love to get my hands on an airbrush. Is it easy to use?

Great job! I'm way too scared to post my first unit here, I'm afraid it will melt your eyes :D

But this looks great! Any tips for blending those colors together? As I would love to use the technique on my Saurus cavalry...

Keep it up!

I read a few articles and watched a few videos before purchasing my airbrush. I ended up going with the first one on this page:

It seems to be a good middle road airbrush starter kit. Comes with everything you need.

It's very easy. The brush itself has a double action trigger, meaning you push down to adjust the amount of air and pull back to adjust the amount of paint. I painted up a poster board first to get a feel for the trigger adjustment. I used vallejo paints specifically marketed for airbrush use, and further watered them down with Windex (I read that Windex keeps the pigments suspended better than water and the further dilution prevents clogging).

The airbrush did all the work. I just airbrushed all the upper portions red..then the lower portions blue. The misting of the airbrush creates the blending where the colors meet. It's that easy!

Here's what they looked like just basecoated:
