Blog My love for dinosaurs coming to fruition!

Thanks for all the kind comments!

This is not really an update on the army, but rather a finished Chaos Hero I'm giving as a present to a friend. I've always loved the mean look of the Chaos Warriors, so I just had to paint one :D I'm not too pleased with the color scheme on the cloak though, but it was good practice for my free-hand. What do you think?

Your friend is getting a great looking mini! I think the cloak looks good. Maybe some orange or red highlights on the flames would give them more depth.

Thank you for your opinion. Yeah, that was my initial thought. I was going to start with red, follow with orange and finish it off with yellow, but my brain short-circuited and I started with yellow. I don't want to work with flame patterns on two fronts, so I've decided to let it be and focus on the lizzies instead.

I think an update is in order just about now. I struck my head on a lamppost four months ago, and I've been bedridden for approximately half the period. The good news is that recovering and now I've got plenty of time to paint! I'm done with 10 more skinks (same color scheme). And the stegadon is nearing completion, it just needs its' crew:

Though they aren't jungle oriented, I'd like to get some thoughts on some of my home built terrain as well:

Hard lesson - never spray paint styrofoam:

I've also started painting the Carnosaur, which is such a delight. My penchant for dinosaurs is really coming to life with this one. It is such a primal miniature and the kit was a pleasure to put together. Pictures are coming soon.

Oh wow... that Blue Steggy is awesome. Love the building too!

Amazing steggy, Im doing my carny blue atm and you have given me a good idea ;)

Your scenery is amazing I really like the detail you have gone too on the ridge tiles, have a spiderman :spiderman:

Krylon does make a water based spray paint, works good on Styrofoam, (Krylon H2O)
just makes sure it's fully covered before you go over it with traditional spray paints.

Ps. good looking stuff man, and sorry about the head.

Rustoleum makes some spray paints that are styrofoam safe. The ones that put down a fake STONE texture work on styrofoam.

That stuff looks pretty cool. Do you have much experience using it? How durable is the stone effect?

Thanks for the kind comments and the spray tip! I will be checking those sprays out some day. But until then; carnosaur! (This is still very much a work in progress). The scales need some fixing, and I'm going to go over the bleached bone with athonian camoshade followed by a highlight. The scales on the back are going to be red, and I'm considering some sort of pattern streaming out of the spine, like GW did, but I don't want to copy it. Any good suggestions?

Very nice carny, how about instead of a pattern you fade the red scales down to yellow (yes I keep suggesting this so someone please do it!)

The Carno is looking good!!! Nice colour scheme.

Maybe, maybe. I will have to think about it. Why not do it yourself if you like the idea so much? :P Thanks for the kind compliments.

Update! The crew for the stegadon is in place and basing is done.

The single feather on the banner post is getting a re-do when I get to my terradons, because it's easier to do all the feathers in one go. I want a similar palette as the skink priests' feathers, just to tie it in some more with the rest of the army.

Additionally, the carnosaur is getting some love (red paint) and I've started on the claws.
I haven't decided whether to do additional markings or stripings over the green areas yet. *pondering, pondering*

VERY NICE STEG. :D

And your carnie is somewhat reminding me
of a Chinese dragon with those colors,
not that that's a bad thing. ;)

Lovely paint job on the STEGADON! That is truly an impressive level of skill you've demonstrated. The carno is great too.

Hehe, I see what you're getting at. He's going to be a wise and gentle carnosaur, from whom people seek advice and assistance in their hour of need :P

Thanks for the comments, guys and gals!
