I like how you paint your skink crests and shields, lots of color! Really makes them stand out.

    For this one:

What inspiration did you use for this scale combo?? When I first saw it I thought of a gila monster, but are there real Lizards that you are getting inspiration for this guy? Amazing work

Well that was actually an accident... ;) had the guy based in light brown and messed around with a self-made mixture of brown and purple... After that mess dried I painted the scales brown and thought it looked quite cool... Then just added some green marks on the side arms and legs fitting the crest... Done!... Nothing real that inspired me here... But I think it turned out quite good... ;)
Here a skink in the classic fifth editions green and blue...

might add a tiny bit if thinned black wash around the eye for shading, like your blue skink.
    ... probably the teeth too.

And now it's just the base to have a second finished skink...

I have to say, I'm a little bit proud of how it turned out... Taking into account that most of the time I was painting I was standing in front of the rack I store my stuff in...;)
...ok maybe the shield could have a light wash to blend the colours a little bit...

Thanks! The blue one is made by @Crowsfoot. Inspired me to make a unit of skink veterans.

What do you think? Too much covering the model? What should I put on the ground? I have some sand like stuff I could use for gravel or something...
    WP_20160413_001.jpg
Another option would be to go and buy some grass...

Looks good! I don´t think the base is overcharged, it´s a skink anyways (they are the ones who supposedly hide in the jungle). Also I think the ballast you have there is a bit oversized (unless you want to represent terrain like those river banks that have many pebbles along their banks).

Yes I thought it was too big... :( but the riverside is a good idea... Or I'll spend some 70cent on bird sand... The package is 1kg so should be enough for my whole army...
I was also thinking about using the stuff I have in small patches and fill the rest of the base with grass or sand...

Yep, the best is to combine so your bases don´t look "perfect"

What if you wash the stones with some shade like agrax earthshade or nuln oil to bring out the sharpness of the stones? It looks good so far!

Another question: Someone seen my 5th ed skink champion? Can't find him... :(
But therefore I found these two guy on the right... Old priest and ( most of you know him on a bigger base) tenhauin prophet of sotek!
    WP_20160415_22_07_36_Pro.jpg
The priest will take his old job in the army (as one with trappings... Or what would you call the things on his head and in his hand ;) )
And the prophet will be standard bearer of the veteran unit... Will try to create a fire/lava look on him on the plaque on the standard...
    Wish me luck! ;)

I'm surprised there was not more talk about the kroxigor on the pictures from page 1. The pose reminds me of the old model, but... It looks so much better. Especially the head. Really nice. Have I missed something, is it a camera angle trick or did you do something to make it this good looking?
