Hi

Here's what if produced in the last few months. I have to say that I do not really use a special colorsheem for my whole army caus I like it if the guys look more individual even in one unit.
But take a look:

So how are you painting them? Do you have an overall color palette that you choose from or do you paint what you feel like?

I would say I paint like I feel. I usually start with two or three models of a unit and once I decided what the color of the skin is I stay with that for the unit. So my saurus with handweapons have a green skin ( not all the same green but all similar, and the champion is purple for being mor outstanding.) and my spears are brown and grey. I vary the color of the scales and the eyes. I'll have some pics uploaded to show you what I mean.

Edit: The steggi turned purple by aciden. Used the wrong wash cause I'm making my own and didn't write the color on it. But my daughter's (3) comment was like:"daddy I like your dinosaur!" And so I kept it like it is now instead of repainting it again.
 
I see what you mean. There is still something to tie the unit together, but they are all unique.

The Skink priest looks cool.
 
Well, if you based them all the same, it would go a long way to help you army look more like a cohesive whole.
For the most part, the army looks like it could use some dry brushed highlights and a wash.

You're right.atm I'm doing the basics most of the time. Basing is usually my very last step when the model is finished. So on the pics you see son of my work in progress bases. Most of the models had some basecolors and some already got a simple black wash. I for my self consider most of them more as playable then as finished.;-)
 
Hi. Decided to try around a little more this weekend. Found some good advise in the linked painting tutorials. Will show of with the results to get some more tips and critics what to improv than.
One last question: How will I do highlights if I painted the mini whit an then washed in a color like I did with this guy? Is white the solution? Only drybrushing I think.

To paint a model white use a cream as your base and then highlight upto white, don't use a wash for shading as it makes the white look dirty.

Basing, you may find this easier if you don't already do something similar, before I undercoat models I apply pva glue to the base then dip it into some sand, let it dry and then undercoat ( I always spray undercoat models), I find it easier to do bases like this rather than trying to do the base once the model is finished.

For character models I usually do the base seperate and transfer the model onto the complete base.

Maybe I will strip of and repaint some of the models.

I wanted to clean the models more to get them in the look I want them, not because they look bad. The thing is also, that I only have a few an at the time there's not much money to get some more to try around.

about the whole work up to white thing you said that inadvertently gave me a good idea for my new aos lizards and just had a question about giving them a holy celestial glow to them with the white

You can usually just paint over an existing model if the paint isn't clogging the detail.

You could do them in a cream or a light grey, don't shade and highlight as normal but on the final highlight try to do light sourcing in pure white, you could add tiny white crosshairs on corners etc.

An very very fine example of this technique painted by Joseph Summerfield, look at the sword in particular, although it is edged probably with Runefang steel the technique is the same.
