I was hoping someone would ask that! The competition was done in five themed rounds, with each painter randomly competing against another. The first round was a free for all and determined which judging tier we would be in (I was in the silver tier).

The theme for round 1 was 'Pretty in Pink'.

Round 2 was 'Better off (Un)Dead'.

    Round 3 'Wyrd Science'

    Round 4 'Armed and Dangerous'.

    And round 5 was 'Critters'.

We only had 2 weeks for each round. Some of the entries were so huge and detailed, I struggled enough with my own even though I tried to keep it small scaled. I was exhausted at the end of it. It was great fun though. It really got the imagination going and got me to finally add paint to long forgotten projects.

These all look incredible! I think mg favourites are pretty in pink and Wyrd science, but then again when I was looking into Malifaux I wanted to get Gremlins! Absolutely stunning on all of these.

Whoa, only two weeks per theme? That's really tough. I guess it's to be expected from something called "iron painter" (I thought you'd just be doing pewter models...)

I'm glad you chose that lich king as your undead model, it's one of my all time favorites and you definitely did it justice! I also love the subtle bad-assery of the Armed and Dangerous, the magazine on the base is a great touch. And the Skaven shows what I think is your signature, the insanely detailed grid patterns. All around fantastic job and I think it's the best one out the five you've shown.

Congratulations on placing second in what sounds like a really high quality competition!

Really amazing work! I liked them all, but I think I enjoyed the huge amount of detail on that dirty skaven's base. Tons of little critters buzzing around, and even a horned skull. Your attention to detail is truly magnificent!

Just finished my Golden Serpent entry, I'll add it to this thread when I can. It was the first Lizardmen model I painted since January last year and I enjoyed it. It's given me a taste for it, and now I want to finally finish my collection. It's a shame I'm so poor...

His painting is so great that he is virtually guaranteed to win something. There are a few people who can put up a fight though, so only the relative placing remains to be seen.

    Excited to see it! :)

WOW, how did you painted that stone throne?! I have been trying to paint mine but I just cant do stone flats... To the point where I thought about painting it like marble isntead.

A few tips, recipees or any help would be infinitely appreciated. :(

    Which stone throne? The Slann one? I just followed the 'Eavy Metal painting guide in White Dwarf, back when it was first released (2003?). In summary;

Basecoat of black + doombull brown mix. Add in increasing amounts of Ushabti bone for 2 or 3 layers, applied as a drybrush. Glaze with purple and brown, then drybrush white.
I paint all stone this way, it looks more natural than using grey paints. You can get different results by substituting Doombull brown with most any other colour, green for a mossy effect for example. Glazes are optional too.

I meant the throne on the carnosaur. I was thinking on doing mine like marble because I just cant pull a proper gray and I dont want to do drybrush really unless it is necessary.

Ah, I don't remember how I painted that but it must have been similar because that's my go-to way to paint stone. As for avoiding drybrushing, it's what gets you the texture. Painting it smooth doesn't get the same effect.

So I logged in the other week and noticed that there are people on my profile page following what I do. I'm guessing this is one of those new-fangled social media type things I have no clue about, but I thought it might interest some of you to know what I'm up to. Or I've misunderstood the situation and no-one really cares, I don't know. I'm not good at having an ego.

So the first thing I should address is the constant mentions (promises?) of a mythic video tutorial and the matter of it's non-existence. My new year's resolution was to start up a youtube channel and do all sorts of fun hobby stuff on there, but I failed at that. The few videos I made were lacking in quality in terms of focus and lighting issues, and when it did go right my 1080p camera still couldn't show the detail very well. Technology and I have this agreement whereupon I don't mess with it and it stops ruining my life. To resolve this I plan on posting some nice detailed picture based tutorials on this site instead. That's something I can do.

Lizardmen and Warhammer in general. Well sadly this is something I don't have much enthusiasm about anymore. I haven't played a Warhammer game in almost 2 years now, and Age of Sigmar is a barrier me and my gaming buddy just can't get past, even with the General's Handbook. I still have plenty of models yet to paint, and they will be done, but since the end times I've moved on to 3 other games (Infinity, Malifaux and Bolt-Action). If it's cool I'd like to start up a 'Neveroddoreven's miscellany' thread to show off and talk about my other Warhammer armies as well as models from other games too if that interests people.

As for my current status, I've had an intense summer of competitions that I won't be doing anymore of for a while. I just spent the last month and a half making a modular magnetic gaming board from scratch for Malifaux, as well as a table's worth of terrain for it. Now my schedule is free and fresh as a daisy, so I'm once again open to commissions (send me a PM if you're interested).

I just want to say thanks everyone here that comments on my work. In all my years of internet I've never discovered a nicer community than this one. Can you blame a guy for wanting to stick around some more?
