When Apocalypse arrived my local GW shopmaster asked me if I would be looking forward to august. I just smiled, coz I know his informations are always on spot. He has a buddy in the translating section of GW germany so....
Sorrowquin, you need to be renamed 'happyquin': you're cheeky message has reinstalled some hope still, I'm hesitant to throw all my doubts away!
I don't know if anyone has seen this but this was over on faeit 212. http://natfka.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/lizard-men-coming-in-august.html
Just hope our new book doesn't ultra-nerf us. After all, some people have said that we are too powerful. But I doubt they would do that to us. We are to awesome to be affected by mere mortals. Only the Old Ones may affect us now.
The only complaint I have heard is the Slann being too powerful. That being said, our entire army is either very slow, or very weak. I feel that the Slann is our only saving grace and that if GWS was to increase the cost of him, then there would need to be some compensation.
I wouldnt worry about what people say, but rather who the writer is.. I dont think anything but the Salamander will be nerfed, but I do think points will change and new magic options will be available like this Top dog: Slann I Think it will stay powerful, maybe even grow a little. It will cost way more and become a less typical choice. Im thinking it will be to Lizardmen what Lord of Change is to Chaos, probably less fighty though. TG' might get upped further in his company to match the new powerlevel: also giving us a true elite infantry, which I for one think we lag. This or an ACTUAL mount option, mazdamundi style. Runner up: "New Caster" option Will take the Slanns current spot as the typical Wizard pick. Will probably be in the same pricerange in pts, but less powerful than current Slann. Bottomfeeder: The beloved Skink Priest Will probably stay more or less the same, hopefully with 1 or 2 more lores. Purely speculations though, but this is how I would have fixed it.
In the fluff it talks about coatls being very powerful mages. Maybe putting a skink priest on a coatl he two of hem together can act as a surrogate slaan. The coatl could give the priest access to different lores. Probably cost about 325 points and basically be a normal level 4 wizard with some funky special rules. Also make the engine of the gods buff a skink priest to a level 4 instead of three. The engine could give the priest access to different lores the the coatl does and so make for some interesting list building options. A new choice isn't needed, just more options added to one of our current choices.
so... You think that a thunderstomping, flying Lvl 4 Wizard monster (Coatls are dragonsize) for 50 pts more than a regular slann would be a considerable replacement? I think we will get something around these lines, but I dont think that THIS will be the Slann replacement. It has to be more subtle for it to make sense.
It does for all but the spell known really, and it can't be lost with the miscast so IMO it's actually better.
book says about the extra level for generating power and dispel dice...etc... Errata changed it to say..... Change the first sentence of the final paragraph to “In addition, a Skink Priest that has taken the Engine of the Gods gets a +1 bonus to all of his casting and dispelling attempts.”
Alright the engine of the gods doesn't boost wizard level now but that could be changed. As for the coatl I was imagining something slightly large than a terradon, but after looking at the picture in the LM book I noticed my mistake. Maybe we can get a saurus shaman, Jk! That would be stupid. I imagine what they will do is make a skink cardinal or something, a boring but effective solution. Also, has anyone heard any actual rumours?
well... even though the later is far more likely, I DID hear someone talk about a "Saurus wearing a cloak of coatl feathers" ... not saying it is the truth...but im saying that I have a little voice in my head saying "That would actually be pretty cool". it kinda checks out: Smart saurus exists (I think its Gor-Roks fluff stating that he is highly intelligent?), and even though its very few of them that has magical potency ( Kroq-Gar is the only one as far as I know) the feathers of a powerful magical being might open up some potential. Fluffwise it could happen, gamewise it would make sense since it would fill a needed slot in the army. Im betting on the skink-high priest, but croses my fingers for the Saurus.
