Not sure if this was noted already but in terms of if all skinks get the 6+ scaly skin save the ripper riders do. Also meaning that as of now rippers have at least a 4+ A save and judging by the models and the description I think they will have light armor as well for a 3+. Pretty pleased with that.
Another thing I noticed is that the skinks on the stegadon are equipped with "lustrian javelins". Either they thought "jungle poisons" sounded stupid or our javelins are somehow different
Speaking of javelins, I never understood why they were Strength as User. Surely strength +1 would make more sense. Not that I'm expecting that here: poison is probably more likely, yeah.
they probaly had to change it because jungle poison effected all skink ranged weapons, and I suspect the flaming bolos are not poisioned.
There hasnt been any news about expanding our Core has there? I know they made insinuations that we get spawnings back via the photos, but in the old days where they still existed: didnt they change the point type of the unit? moving it from core to special or something along those lines? could spawnings be a solution to our limited core? and without being cheesy? some has suggested that CoC would get moved to Core, which would help in my opinion, given a pts drop. what are your thoughts on this matter?
I think most armies only have 4 things in Core. So for is it's Saurus, Skinks, Skirmishers(?), and Swarms. Kroq-Gar has traditionally let us take Cavalry as core, so I kind of doubt it. I assume they want to sell that model so they probably made some good incentives to make us want him as an auto-include. I think Terradons would sooner make their way into a Core slot. How do the marks work on Chaos now? They don't push them into a different slot, do they? EDIT: I was wondering what happened to that guy...
I thik I saw in here somewhere that swarms where moved to special ??? (I hope that means that they will be worth taking) When we had marks, a single mark pushed a core unit to special and a second pused them to rare. and you still had to pay for the marks... think it was a flat price per unit..?
I'm sceptical that they'd come back. Spawnings would add flexibility to our core by a lot, but there is no profitable reason for them to give us that (other than that we'd buy more saurus to paint in to different spawning colors..). Making saurus that have sacred spawning special is quite so and so, taking away from stegadons and other stuff. It would still be good, depending on the spawnings. CoC moving to core would be very interesting. Don't think that it would be possible w/o introducing some kind of new cavalry. We have terradons and we're getting ripperdactyls, but I don't think they would move CoC to core themselves.
Yeah, I agree. As far as I can tell: Core: Saurus Skinks Skirmishers (unless these go back to being an upgrade?) Swarms (unless these are Special like n810 suggested) Special: (7 seems like too many options...) Chameleons Terradons Ripperdactyls Cold One Cavalry Kroxigor Stegadon Bastiladon Rare: Ancient Steg Salamander Razordon Trogladon
Yeah. 5 -30 points depending on the type. Some of them were amazing. +1 Armour save, +1 Attack on the charge for 30 points each per unit o.o EDIT: That was also the same edition that spawned the Jaguar Saurus of Doom. Does anyone else miss him? Chaos marks are per model, ranging from 1-3 IIRC. As it is right now, Saurus, Skinks, Skirmishers and Swarms are a terrible Core, as it is right now. I thoroughly believe that an army should be able to function on its Core, with everything else just adding neat toys. Look at the Cores for Warriors, High Elves, Dark Elves, Empire, Ogres, Daemons, Skaven, Orcs in comparison for the sorts of wide ranging, flexible and effective options that are available in their Core. Essentially ours comes down to big units of Saurus plus Skimirshers, or big units of Skrox plus Skirmishers, or one of each plus Skirmishers. The only armies which I have a passing familiarity with that could rightfully claim of poor choice like us are Vampires, Tomb Kings and Beastmen. Its part of the reason I was hoping that we'd get another rank and file to slot in there. Sadly, I don't see Cold One Cavalry moving there - much as I would like them too. Cavalry in an Aztec inspired army should remain Special in my opinion. I would not regret having Terradons in Core though, if it happened. Ripperdactyls, either. In fact I'd probably go out and buy a ton, which might be GWs plan, if I didn't think the'd make Skink Skirmishers irrelevant.
Imagine having an army list that consisted largely of core Rippers. We'd never hear the end of the cheese whining.
yeah charm of the jaguar venom of the firefly and glyph necklace lets go canon hunting i also miss mark of the old ones on my skink who held the cube
the reason I ask is part because of our limited core, part because of HE got Cavalry in core with their new book....and well...part cause I just converted a couple DE cold ones to CoC with templeguard on em It might make more sense fluffwise for HE, but if they are not a normal part of LM armies, why are they in the battalion box?
I think HE had much less core units than we have, at least in quality.. Spearmen were not tough enough, archers were not strong enough, so they needed the cavalry to be there in core units... I don't think we need CoC in core.. but it would be totally fine for me... I like them...
My random thoughts for the day: Making a Steg "unstoppable" means it gets a ward save vs. cannon balls with that big armoured frill....hey, a skink can dream, can't he? "Sharpened horns" makes sense as a type of Razor standard equivalent. I concur "Primal Hunter" means you get exactly 13% more attacks...big whoop! I certainly hope the improvement to saurus is more than just that! Has anyone considered that by giving the Scar Vet the option of being mounted on a Carnosaur, they will take away the Cold One/Horned One Mount? No more cowboys? That would be sad indeed.
I think it was already mentioned that SV's can take a Cold One still. No worries. Just got to worry about the gear getting nerfed now. Thoughts on the Trogladon; seeing as it's supposed to be blind (no pun intended) having only 3 attacks makes sense. The ranged part of this guy must be the gravy. Otherwise it's just a lame Carnosaur. The suspense is killing me!!!
just that this whole thing comes at 200 rare pts but we got stegs in that range so you point is still valid -.- ..... Im in suspense too.. Im dying to see the new diciplines and items too..
For me its what they are doing with Engines. That you can take one on an Ancient Stegadon - that's cheaper, too - without a Skink Priest is really interesting for me. In their current format they'd be pretty outrageous. Two 5++ bubbles, or lowering a lore's spell level by 2, or the double flameburst...
