This has me very interested to see the new warscroll for kroak as i doubt they gave his "unique" spell to a mere skink oracle without giving him something else.
Scaly skin is very good though, reducing damage by 1 is a big deal, Ironjawz will HATE fighting these guys as it completely negates warchanters for most of their units, effectively halving the damage of their hammers. This will not do anything against chaff though, but will greatly help a dino list survive against other heavy hitting stuff. I am not impressed all in all from this preview, over half of it is basically just a strange attempt at being excited around the exact same rules we already had in GHB19 but simply splitting them up into pieces. Everything we learn about the Starborn is they basically got the same rules as now, nothing new there... You get to change a spell, you get to teleport a unit, you get to imrpove bravery to 10, wow! Wow indeed article made by someone who never played seraphon, wow indeed. At least the Troglodon seems to have more of a purpose and could be a fun caster choice for a monster list. Without the Ogor like rules of counting as more models than 1 for objectives, I do not see much hope for a monster list though, but maybe there will be a sub faction, but looking at how unimpressive the stuff is they wanted to showcase now, I fear a massive amount of mediocrity is inbound.
I suspect The Great Remember will only be available to the Starborne, no doubt there wil be one or two other differences in how summoning can work for Coalesced vc Starborne.
uhmm reading the post again, before I noticed this: As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll get to ignore negative terrain effects in your table half, as well as Bravery modifiers! Compared to the Starborne, Coalesced forces are really well suited to aggressive play, as you use massive monsters and blocks of Saurus to grind down the foe.
2 things: so pumped for the general saurus vibe. However, unless this all adds up to some drastic increases losing summoning and teleporting basically means that army is dead on arrival. They'll just be a raw power army and they'll need some serious power built into them through command ability stacking/etc (which it sounds like they might have). I love this and also hate this. teleport and summoning was my favorite part of the seraphon army. I like that saurus is getting their own identity (kind of?) but is it selfish to say that i just sort of wanted it all?
Agreed, I am so happy I picked a really difficult but cool looking paint job to do on my Trog because of this update. People also got additional mortal wounds with this unit
Scaly skin is good if saurus get 2 wounds, otherwise its a bit lackluster unless you're running lotsa dinos i suppose. Kinda feel the space lizards teleport and bravery 10 would be more benificial?
My guess is that saurus armies will be heavily emphasized on command points, and might look similar to ossiarchs with their tactics. Other things that might be possible is that they will have some seraphon kind of twist, with better spells. That endless spell stuff is terrifying
I guess Troglodons are going to be hidden or chased most of the time... I think the Slann may lose the "dispell everywhere" ability. I do like that they maintained the core mechanics while opening for different listbuilds. The old battalions where more boring because they kind of bind hard lists to specific mechanics.
It's basically how they play now. I just worry that they haven't built enough power into the list to make up for not summoning/teleporting.
I'm betting saurus will indeed be two wounds now based on this rule alone. We're giving up LoSAT for this, so there is plenty of room for the ability to be quite impactful in a game.
Also likely that knights will get a third wound. This is pretty significant as it makes saurus much tougher and makes up for the loss of the shield
