Given that that'd be stupid, I'm going to say no. I think this is just a very confusing way of saying "summons and such don't count towards the max limit of heroes, minimum req. of battleline etc."
You guys are confusing KEYWORDS and battle field role. Roles are: Leader, Behemoth, Battleline, Artilery, Other so summoned units do not have those roles. they still always have their KEYWORDS.
I think RAW that's exactly what it means, but probably not what they intended. I think the first and last sentence is one complete thought, so summoned units do not gain their battlefield role... in the context of the maximum (or minimum) number allowed or needed for army creation.
Exactly. No warscroll has the “battlefield role” in their keywords like Leader, Battleline etc. They specifically changed battleplans to mention “leaders” and not “heroes” (which is a keyword).
It might be a mistake, but it could also be an interesting way to nerf summoning mechanics. It would only affect a few select battleplans with unique capture mechanics though. The majority is still just count up models.
Tossed the same question out into a few of the groups i'm in. Basically getting a lot of "yeah, they can't" head nods. Big nerf to summoning on those battleplans, but honestly probably a good thing.
Are we sure about this? In the Auxiliary Objectives section (p 108) under Unit Types and Point Values it states that the type of unit is listed in its Pitched Battle Profile, so I would think that summoned leaders are still leaders and summoned battlelines are still battleline.
The faq pasted above states that summoned units do not receive the battlefield role in their pitched battle profile. A summoned unit of skinks (or anything, really) would not be able to move onto and hold an objective in A Better Part of Valour.
Poor Slaanesh. Yet another bat to their face since they typically run minimum battleline units to max heroes. FEC is in a similar boat. It will be weird to screen your Skinks with your army for once.
they won't have to. Just throw 20 guys in combat with them and claim the objective. Monsters need to count for a lot more guys when it comes to claiming objectives.
I personally have mixed feelings when it comes to summoning in general, but especially with Seraphon. On one hand, it's a useful mechanic in a pinch if your army is set up for summoning, particularly for stop-gap measures. On the other hand, it is no substitute for deep striking or strategic reserves in the vein of the Dracothion's Tail ability Appear on Command. Of course, this is all assuming that you're playing Starborne, since that's the only way you can do any summoning with Seraphon. As someone who got sick and tired of playing that game when they'd rather be playing the classic Aztec dinosaurs, whilst I wish that there would be better incentives for playing Coalesced beyond Thunder Lizard, I'm content to say that I'm not affected by this situational nerf at all.
Wack Scaly skin? Extra bites? Better overall if you're running a monster mash build(ala thunder lizard) just overall the standard thing you should pick if you like having a good time and Gimpin d3 damage and 2 damage characters
