I wonder how they could represent Kroak's mastery in magic without repeating themeselves, when they already have Nagash, who casts 8 times with +3 to roll, teclis, who can auto-cast, auto-unbind/dispel and gives aura, ignoring spells, and LoC, who turns the lowest die to highest and can eat endless spells.
The unbind by Kroak doesn't cancel the spell cast by the opponent. Kroak takes control of it and decides a new target. Yeah, i'm just dreaming...
Of the top of my head the following would still be unique: - Being able to cast all spells in the game, including unique faciton spells at will (there's some spellthiefs like the changeling but those are limited in the spells they can steal) - Twinning spells (e.g. succesfully casting arcane bolt allows him to hit 2 targets) - Ignoring the rule of one (and not just for 1 specific spell, but for every spell) And eh.. that's it I think, every other special rule that I can think of seems to already be covered.
In a way, I don't really know if they can ever represent Kroak on the table in a satisfying way. Kroak is like The Emperor in 40k (if the Emperor remained completely active and unphased by his quasi-dead body) He'd be worth like 10,000 points or more if they portrayed him accurately on the table.
i love the idea of twined spells the others would pose problems. being able to cast every spell in the game brings things like acid touch into his wheel house a spell limited by it's faction and casting cost(rightly so making peoples saves - is extremely powerful) as well rat trap and many many more, not to mention the spells that just wouldn't do anything as they are dependant on faction abilities. it would also let him just spam horde breakers hitting big blobs for 40+ wounds a magic round fairly easily. ignoring the rule of one has the same problem with horde breakers and with commits call you would be able to drop every hero turn one
It was a pessimistic thing for me to say and I'm not usually pessimistic. It is entirely possible that GW will come up with something very creative and satisfying for the player, like with Teclis. Something they haven't done yet and nobody's thought of (again, as they did with Teclis). But I do want him to be a better wizard than Teclis.
not at all i completely know what you mean. the slann literally throw mountains at people and kroak is well known for having the highest kill count out of any one in the setting all made in one day. he would be impossible to put on the table in all his glory. fingers crossed
Back in the old fantasy days, slanns had the ability to be lore masters, where you could pick a lore and know all the spells instead of the 1 or 2 you could use. I think it would be really cool if kroak just knew all the spells in the game. Every one from every faction. Still only gets 3 casts per turn, but you have a ton of flexibility and options and it would really rewards players for taking the time to delve into the different combos and things like that.
See my above statement on the Mater he would just take horde Breakers and kill everything. Now if you could choose one lore From Any Given book that would work everyone would just take the Gut Busters one
Seems absolutely broken. I hope that kroak will know both the spell of celestial domination and celestial manipulation. I hate the fact that skinks can get the spells which slann cannot get. Celestial manipulation should be available to slann to. LoN already can do that on a cast of 9+. But would be cool if kroak could do that automatically. Like, chosing up to 3 targets on a success (which means comet hits automatically 3 targets, wihout rolling d3, for example, and mystic shiled could be applied to three friendly units). Throwing Comet 4 times is a bit too much, IMO. Other than that - could be cool. Nagash and Arkhan already can do this though. I would like Kroak to know every spell from realms. Getting fireball, wyldform or transmutaion is very hadny.
I don't suppose it would be crazy if Kroak could bring any *one* spell from any faction to a game. Though it would feel very wrong for him to cast Warp Lightning Vortex...
Yeah, twinning would probably be the most balanced out of those options. O, it'd definitly be broken. But it is unique, and that's what I was going for Maybe limiting it to endless spells might be reasonable. Or just realm spells and not factions spells. Those should be less problematic and it limits the amount of books a Kroak player needs Well that's dissapointing, didn't think anyone could actually do that in AoS. They are limited to their own lores though, so having it be guaranteed & include stuff like realm lores might still be special enough I guess. Remove comet call from his spell list, problem solved Would probably be a good idea regardless. I don't really like comet call being shared between 3 unique units... Also, Nagash & Arkhan have it limited to just arcane bolt & mystic shield. They can't do it for every spell they know.
O, I thought of some others: - Silence effect: enemy wizards within a certain area cannot attempt to cast or unbind - Automatic retaliation against other wizards: enemy wizards suffer D3 wounds whenever they attempt to cast or unbind when in a certain area Area of effects could either be centered around Kroak to encourage more aggresive Kroak use (have him walk up to Nagash and Teclis and force them to fight him without magic ) Or could be centered around a point he picks, or work like the bad moon where it covers a predetermined area of the battlefield.
both are already a thing with khorn but i would be down for Kroak being a anti mage. he would need a body gaurd as he probably won't be great in melee
Now that I'm considering it. I think it would be awesome if Kroak became a juggernaut caster. They were kind of close to the concept with their current warscroll and (normally) short-range on their unique spell lending itself to be up close and personal when smiting your enemies. if GW gives them a decent wound upgrade I could definitely see this being a thing.
They could give him similar defensive stats as a great unclean one. A god-sized model 15-ish wounds & a ward-save from death for unnumerable ages wouldn't be particularly weird. Which should be more than enough to allow him to risk going near the frontline, especially if he focusses on taking down opposing wizards and avoids the full-blown combat heroes like bloodthirsters and such. Seems like that could be a fun little niche, hunting down the normally powerfull opposing wizards like Teclis and LoC. Or something like this. A juggernaut wizard that actually relies on his spells for most of his damage. Stuff like the vampires on zombie dragons still rely on their mounts to do a lot of the heavy lifting. Give us something that is as survivable as those, with a similar destructive potential, but the damage source is his magic, not just regular attacks that are fluffed to be magical (e.g. azerite force barrier is a fluffy "magical" melee attack)
