The contents and story stuff has a review out now, here: https://spruesandbrews.com/2021/04/17/broken-realms-belakor-review/ Obviously needs to be taken with a grain of salt like the bell of souls Teclis one that got a whole lot wrong, but this is.... a lot
wow ok so we get to be suckers for belacore so he can get his plan to work... the bar drops ever lower
Makes kroak sound like a chump. Seraphons entire mission is to stop chaos so the oldest and wisest one basically destroys a realm and gives chaos the victory the want.
Its typical GW garbage writing. Its Belakors book so his plan has to work even though there is no rway for it to happen. Its why I stopped reading GW fluff.
awesome box art, shame the contents aren't all that special I mean I do hope this is inaccurate...Kroak sacrificing an entire realm to kill 1 gaunt summoner seems rather stupid... If this is an accurate description of this book then there better be a good explenation in Kroak's update as to why this was actually worth it. Also the SCE have just been reduced to punching bags haven't they? When's the last time they did something other than be slaughtered, preferably by really obviously sketchy "allies"?
i mean couldent the same thing have happened but the target was a order facility that the seraphon tried and failed to protect? same out come but it doesn't make us look like morons
Not much better though... order in AoS seems to very much be a punching bag that gets slaughtered. Preferably by obviously sketchy allies who they obviously shouldn't have trusted.
i mean we fail either way why not have the failure be a last stand to the death(a great trope that makes us look good) over they got duped. sure we loose but that was always going to happen in this book at least we could have looked good doing it.
It does around 5 mortals on average on a target within 24" and its in the shooting phase so you can easily move into range, which is solid sniping. I don't think its bad, the main issue is that it competes with TQ, which is better and more flexible. Hopefully we get a redemption arc in whatever BR drops together with the new Kroak.
I mean sure, its a a nice heroic trope. But there have been what, 3 or 4 major SCE/human cities that housed an entire stormhost that have been destroyed or sacked in a desperate last stand since Nagash started his masterplan? Not to mention the amount of garrisons and small cities that get destroyed in the various short stories. SCE, humans, seraphon & regular dwarfs seem to only exist to get slaughtered in obvious traps or hopeless battles for the most part. Yet on the other hand the aelves just do as they please and constantly get to look bad-ass, death is still very much in the ascendent, and most of chaos mucks about on the edge doing its thing occasionally slipping into the mainstory. It just gets kinda old...
Wait, they blew up a Realm? Again?? Where have I heard this one before... I know I read of this somewhere. @NIGHTBRINGER ...if they really blew up a whole Realm, whaddya figure: one down, eighth to go?
When I heard that we were going to appear in Be'lakor's book, I assumed we would be there to be jobbers for Chaos. Didn't expect Lord Kroak to be duped by Be'lakor though With this and Morathi talking about "redirecting" Kroak in the reveal trailer, I'm starting to fear that all the lore around him and the Seraphon will basically be us getting manipulated by various enemies to do things that inadvertently help them. Boo!
I mean, at least in this case Kroak did see through Be'lakor's "trap" and decided it was worth it anyway. So it isn't so much being duped by Be'lakor as just using the oppertunity he created to make a ridiculously large sacrifice to take down 1 specific (powerfull) demon. They reaaaaaally need to explain how this sacrifice is worth it though. One gaunt summoner does not seem worth (potentially) sacrificing an entire realm for. I mean, there's 9 summoners and only 8 realms, so even just to take down all summoners the sacrifice isn't really worth it cuz you'l have a gaunt summoner left over at the end and there's plenty of other powerfull chaos demons left even if you take down all the gaunt summoners...
Hopefully, if they give Kroak his own book it'll explain why the sacrifice was worth it and give him a chance to reestablish the realm gates.
I like how it gives kroak that "doesn't give a fuck about the little people" vibe. I'll be honest, I dig it. Seraphon wrecks some shit and in the next storyline it's probably revealed it was all part of some great plan anyways. Win win
The real issue is that you are paying 140 pts for the battalion and sacrifice 1 turn of basic effects from your dinos, to inflict those MWs that maybe will snip a lesser heroes. For that to be vaguely worth it, you should kill a 180-200 pts target around T1 or 2, and i don't see that happen.
Yeah, this seems more like a chess game, when one of the players makes a sacrificial move, expecting the piece to be killed to gain a better position... the opponent sees the trap but decides to accept the sacrifice nonetheless, because he thinks in the long run that was worth it and the advantage gained by first player can be negated at a later moment.
