Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Painting Blog - 1000 point (not so) year end Chaos Dwarfs challenge (78.2%)

A magnificent K’daai Fireborn @NIGHTBRINGER, though your painted models are rare, it’s always worth it to see a new one done! :)
Thank you kind sir. :)

Now you just need to paint the other two (or more, depending on how many the Mrs got you)... ;)

I have 5 more waiting in the wings, 2 built and 3 unbuilt. To be honest though, I have the itch to paint something different. Maybe a war machine or a Bull Centaur.

It is indeed! :)

Nice.

As part of familiarising myself with the Magic Lores, I spent some time on the Tamurkhan book. The problem with the fire cannons, for me, is that you have to be pretty close which doesn't work as you don't want your war machines getting in charge range. With the Iron Daemon, you can literally get this to a flanking position and let rip and then get out of range.

What an awesome set of rules.

A couple of quick updates.

#1. The cannon was not sitting properly on the cannon support piece (when seated on it, it caused a misalignment with another piece). So a little bit of spure on the underside (which will be hidden anyways) was used to rectify the situation.

#2. The cannon support piece was also a bit malformed, so a little bit of green stuff was applied to correct its shape.

#3. Lastly, I cut a base (chariot base sized, 50x100mm) out of a piece of acrylic.

Some more assembly, undercoat and a basecoat of metal. I also applied a thick black wash on the underside of the platform and to the components below it (prior to adding the platform because it will be hard to get a brush in there with the platform added).

The assembly of this model has been an absolute nightmare, with things not lining up properly. Not sure if something is warped or if the sculpt is problematic or if I messed something up along the way. Too many things need to line up and if any one thing that is slightly off, it throws everything else off. Definitely not up to the standards of GW's current plastic models in terms of ease of assembly (plus I've never been particularly great at assembling things).

Worst model I've ever had to deal with in terms of assembly, and that includes this notoriously difficult model I struggled with in the past:

This looks like a nightmare...

Is it a FW or GW model?

Still working on my Magma Cannon, but in the meantime, I assembled, green-stuffed (outside of two small air bubbles that still need to be attended to) and based this big beastie (Chaos Warrior is there to provide a sense of scale)...

Nice, model. Still I think it is an (over)compensation for the height of the Chaos Dwarfs themselves :p

Grrr, Imrahil
