Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Painting Blog - 1000 point (not so) year end Chaos Dwarfs challenge (78.2%)

One of the only two decent models from the set (alongside the Kharadron).
That box is full of great models. The Skellies, although highly fragile, are excellent looking models. The Kosargi Nightguard are also fantastic sculpts as is the Ogre, Brutogg Corpse-Eater. And of course you are "forgetting" the best model in the entire box, Jelsen Darrock! (my second favourite model released by GW in 2021).

Regardless, an excellent porting of an AoS model into Warhammer Fantasy, it pleases me immensely whenever anyone does this.
Thank you my friend. She joins the ranks of my wife's 8th edition Wood Elves... and is ready to be killed (or enslaved) by my Chaos Dwarfs!

Looks like I'll have to wait a while before I post pictures of my latest completed work. I'll be entering my model in the Chaos Dwarfs Online Golden Hat XXXVIII contest! Entries will be submitted by February 20th, followed by a voting period, after which time I'll post the pictures of my model on here.

Wish me luck! View attachment 106515

Good luck!

[LoR frowns]

Maybe if I have a month to paint something I can do something from my fledgling army...

Will do! Given the quality of your painting you deserve to do well!

They always push the boat out on prizes in the CDO contests, and funnily enough this time probably the best prize is one of those offered to a random participant in the top 3 (those Lost Kingdom Bull Centaurs, some of their better and more durable-looking models).

Good luck! judging on your previous paintjobs it will have to be a great model!

Grrr, Imrahil
Thank you!

Good luck! I look forward to seeing the model when you can post it.
Cheers!

Good luck! Let us know when you enter the contest, so i'll go take a look. :)
Will do! I'll update this thread when the contest is opened for viewing.

There is still lots of time. You should paint something for it!!

True, that is an exceptionally great prize!

Working on some bases for my Hobgoblin Cutthroats. I have 40 Hobgoblin models, so here are 40 cork squares for their bases. Also pictured is one of Mantic's 20x20mm bases (which are actually quite nice, made of hard plastic).

In my opinion these cork squares are a bit too thick for such small bases though; measuring in at 5mm. That's the same thickness that I use for my much larger bases such as my 40x40mm Fireborn, 50x75mm Bull Centaur and 50x100mm Magma Cannon bases. It works well and looks natural for those larger bases, but is too thick for these. The next step will be to reduce their thickness to 3mm, which should look much better. I have a solution for this... more pictures to follow!

A simple little wooden jig I made, which I've clamped to the fence of my belt sander. Simply stick the 5mm thick cork into the pre-cut slot, turn on the sander, push down lightly and 1 second later the you've got a 3mm thick piece of cork. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Wait... Goblins? Are you doing an Orcs & Goblins Army now?
Nope. I'm simply using Mantic Games' Goblin Regiment as my hobgoblins for my Chaos Dwarf army. I have zero interest in ever starting an O&G army. I have enough armies as is, and if I ever were to pick up another army, the current leading contender is the Vampire Counts.

Makes sense. Great models!

[LoR does a low whistle] VC is quite a cost intensive army... with all the skeletons/zombies and like troops...

There are lots of great models from the Cursed City set. I'd also be able to use my skeletons from my Tomb Kings army. That said, I have no plans to start a VC army. I try to abide by my self-imposed 4 army max rule. As I currently have WoC, CD, LM and TK, I'd have to get rid of one of them first (and I don't wish to).

Well, they're great armies. I was happy with 4 armies and then I fell to darkness... ;)

Hopefully my wallet will forgive me in the end. What is that saying? It's not addiction until you are on the street?

which could happen when you collect so many miniatures you start to struggle in finding room for everything else. :p
Good point.

I have several reasons why I don't want to move past my four army limit:
  • space
  • I already have more models than I will ever paint
  • there are only four shelves in my display cabinet (this is why I originally came up with the limit of four)
  • too much of a distraction and runs the risk of pulling my focus away from what I already have
  • absorbs money that can be spent on some of my other hobbies
