The only reason I hesitate is that the diameter of the whole logs and the split logs are completely different. Do you think they would still work well together?

 

Try it... Maybe a 50/50 mix looks not good but maybe 70/30 does... Only question would be which is 70 and which is 30. I would say go for mostly small round and add some of the bigger split logs...

 

I think mostly split logs with a few whole ones in the mix.

 

Yep, exactly, mix´em!! And don´t mind about the ratio, if you think too much about it it will end up not looking natural, which is what you want to avoid! Just close your eyes and pic some, then glue those!

Now that my entry for the Golden Serpent contest is long submitted, I can finally get back to my house terrain piece. Just a small update, I've added a little bit of wood grain to the wooden sections of the house...

 

Subtle but effective touch. Those fine details are what get people to look twice and go, I don't know what it is but this just looks incredible.

 

Thanks Bowser! I'm not particularly good at painting wood grain so I tried to keep it subtle. I wasn't brave enough to try my hand at a more contrasted effect.

 

Looks perfect to me. Sometimes it's the lines you don't paint that are most effective.

I'm not going to lie... I've become distracted with another project . But at least I'll be posting pictures of that sometime soon.

It's nothing that fancy. Just a simple project. It should be finished in a couple of hours (I have the clamps on and the glue drying as we speak). A picture is better than a description, so I'll wait until I have pictures to post!

It's an extension to my paint shelf!

Here it stands next to my primary paint shelf...

The legs are removable...


Once the legs are removed, the whole shelf fits into the central compartment of my main paint shelf. Out of sight, out of mind...


Since making the first shelf, I've started picking up Vallejo paints for a couple of reasons...

• a "partial" boycott of GW since the death (murder) of Warhammer Fantasy
• Vellejo has a range that matches GW's old discontinued paint line
• the Vellejo dropper bottles are fantastic, so much more convenient... especially when I start airbrushing

Anyways, the Vallejo paint pots are quite a bit taller than the GW pots, and as a consequence they wouldn't fit on my primary shelving unit. So I made an extension to house them. The new shelf is double sided (though the other side is empty at the moment because I don't have a lot of Vallejo paints yet).

The cost of all the materials I used for the project (outside of a little glue) is exactly $0. The maple sides are scrap I got from my Dad. The plywood and acrylic pieces are from scraps I got from a friend. The large pine section is from a piece of furniture that someone threw in the garbage. It definitely ain't pretty, but it gets the job done and it was free!

Anyways, hope you like it! Feedback of all varieties is always very much appreciated.

Thank you. I definitely wanted it to fit into the inside compartment so I worked with those dimensions and designed it from there. It should help to keep my work space a bit more tidy.
