This is my noob showing. I can't seem to find the crossfire rule in the SRB. I know this is the wrong place to ask, but cold someone explain the crossfire rule?

Any unit that flees through an enemy unit is subject to the Cross Fire rule. The rule states that if your path of flight takes you through an enemy unit of US5 or greater, that unit destroys the fleeing unit with no combat. It is the same as if that unit's flee path (flight path?) had landed them in unpassable terrain. So as soon as they touch the enemy unit, they are destroyed.

This represents a disarrayed unit, fleeing in terror from their recent loss in combat being cut to ribbons by the waiting unit who takes advantage of their disorganization to finish off the now defenseless unit.

A commonly used tactic in WH games is to place a mobile US5+ unit behind an enemy unit that is expected to break, insuring that if they flee, they will do so through the Cross Firing unit. At the end of the combat when the loosing unit fails its break test and flees, they are cut down and the unit is destroyed. As you can see this tactic is usefull against all types of units, but seems especially usefull against units that you don't want rallying later on and coming back to haunt you.

Terradons are especially adept at this roll now that they count as flying cavalry (US2 per model) because of their mobility and their rule change. With 7th edition rules (including the Xfire rule) with the 6th edition Lizardmen army book, Terradons were useless for this role unless you brought a unit of 5 (US5). With 7th rules and 7th army book, a unit of 3 Terradons, can effectively fill this role (US6) while saving you ~15 points due to the points cost change per Terradon (I may be wrong on that).

Hope the explaination is clear enough. I am at work right now, and as such don't have access to my books without looking like a total nerd in front of my boss. Perhaps someone can provide a reference for the Xfire rule in the SRB or BRB?

Well, "cross fire" is not mentioned even once in the rule book, so you didn't miss anything. It's one of those cases where GW didn't name the rule so forums have generally adopted "cross fire" to describe this situation... despite the fact that the term makes absolutely no sense at all!

When I hear "cross fire" I always think of the movie Tombstone...

True enough, I find myself using the term anyways though. Must be some forum I read it on.
