The first draft of mine didn’t make it in, but I was able to prune it to a suitable size.

I've written more than a few of these pieces right before the deadline myself. In general I get more votes and praise when I take my time, but the one piece where I won a contest (okay I tied for first place) was fairly rushed but that was a fluke. I must have had a invisible muse assaulting me for that one because about 48 hours before the deadline I got the idea in my head "Write this! Write this now!"
