Contest October-November 2020 Short Story Contest, Entries Closed

I don't think we've ever had someone win consecutive contests. I cannot speak for everyone but after I won, I usually skip the next contest (unless the turnout is unusually low) or I deliberately don't bring my A-game and write something experimental out of my comfort zone.

Hmmmm.... Funnily enough, on my only win, I next wrote something I knew was an unpopular/unliked subject... unintentional, but possibly something like this was at the back of my mind?

For sure, doing the contest myself and promoting it to others always has the ulterior motive for me of encouraging others to write. I think that's the main value of the contest to be honest.

That said I've been listening to near constant Halloween music so maybe I'm not in the right frame of mind.

That's actually quite funny.

I've submitted mine. It's about someone who wants to submit shortform prose about aztec-themed reptile civilizations to quarterly competitions but doesn't have anywhere to turn, until he finds.... A Place to Call Home.

Um.... I think this was supposed to be in a PM to Scalenex ;)

Anyone made any progress?

@Killer Angel ? @thedarkfourth ? @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl ? @Infinity Turtle ? @Imrahil ? @Paradoxical Pacifism ? @Lizerd ?

@Tk'ya'pyk , @DeathBringer125 , @Erta Wanderer and @Sudsinabucket I've seen you guys come up with brilliant ideas, how about putting one into a short story for the contest?

Let's say that my story is structured in my mind.
But i'm struggling to find the time to write anything. I still have to read a single page of the new necrons' codex.
A big flood plus many landslides hit my region, and being a geologist i'm working 7/7 days since last sunday.

You are pardoned for your lack of involvement due to your humanitarian work ;)

My productivity on this subject was quite something. At first an other story idea popped into my head and after careful weighing, the probability of me getting that story going, I decided to stick with my first story. :p

Grrr, Imrahil

Alas, aside from writing out a basic synopsis which I’m not entirely satisfied with, I have been otherwise engaged preparing for final yr 12 exams...

Hopefully I’ll have a bit more time this week to jot down notes and get to writing :)

:D

I hear the Jaws music playing in the background as your story creeps towards us...

The first week of the contest, there are usually one or two eager beavers who submit something. The second week of the contest usually has zero submissions, even on contests with an unusual high turnout.

The third week typically gets another one or two entries with the bulk arriving in the last week and a good portion arriving in the last two or three days.

I find myself slotted into a category... :( oh dear...

I didn't mention you. Also, sometimes people get an idea early. Eager beavers is a temporary condition that most Fluff forum regulars enter at least once. Not @Y'ttar Scaletail, he's always one of the last entries. I think he wants to be the 13th entry. He's come close to that once or twice.

You didn't it's true.

I just found myself agreeing with your analysis and then realized I have often found myself as one of the first entrants in previous contests...

Ah, well. I do enjoy the contest, so I guess that's it then.
