Thanks, yeah, it was pretty much a 72 hour party...my head is still recovering But I can't really call her that anymore...I have to say "fiancé" now...takes some getting used to! So I've been feverishly at work on the standard bearer and I think I have him done now. I think I'm certainly getting my money's-worth out of the spare bits from the CoC box at any rate Sculpting definitely goes a lot quicker when you don't take the time to add crazy detail to muscles that are just going to be covered up by scales anyway...so maybe I'm learning... Anyway, here are some final shots before painting: Looking at these photos I think I still need to putty the gap between the head and torso...I understand why GW designed the 5th edition models this way, with all those neck folds to draw attention away from the seam where the head and torso meet at an almost 90 angle, but I think it would be lazy of me to leave it like that. In fact I am going to fix the necks on all of my Sauri, which I already did on my hand-weapon & shield unit. Stay tuned for pictures of the unit champion figure...this one will be a doozy, I promise
neat. you made that "axe" look halfway decent. i dont like it at all as it is originally, but that small addition was kinda cool. i may have to steal it
Off tomorrow, being a chaperone on my son's class trip to Boston, so until I return, here are some WIP photos of the Saurus Champion, with an Aztek headdress (I swear I started working on this before I saw neveroddoreven's general on Carnosaur, and his is better than mine...) Anyway, this is my most audacious attempt yet to animate and rework the classic 5th edition plastic sauri models. I think having his leg up and putting him in this jumping lunge looks really good and as you can see, as was the case with the standard bearer, I've carved off the shield bearing arm so that I can sculpt the left arm doing something more interesting. I plan to give him double hand weapons to ensure that I never forget to throw that extra dice The base of the headdress is a bit that I picked up at the bead store the same day that I got the little saxophone charm for my musician. Expect an update on Friday, as I will be working more on this tonight and tomorrow night, if I don't get back too late...comments?
sorry man, but i just got this weird vibe from that headdress... i am sure you will make it look amazing as usual though
Hey folks! Tsunami, here is an update on my "Carmen Miranda" Champion Gotta finish this and get some paint on the unit before the next campaign battle...yesterday's game was really close and I had 150 points of painting penalties which almost pushed me into the loss column under our group's campaign rules. Someone a while back asked me to post a photo of my whole army together. Well, this is most of it, excluding a Skrox unit, my mostly unfinished Steg and my CoC models. Such photos never show much detail and are hard to focus, but I tried getting a low angle across the battleline to make it sorta look interesting: Not bad for a year's work, but I suppose I'd have everything painted by now if I weren't spending 9/10th of my time sculpting!
Yeah, I started working on the Terradons but then put them aside for a while for other projects. I'll get back to them eventually. They were a massive pain to put together, pin, seal gaps and remove mold lines and such. I took these photos before spraying a little color on them: They under-performed horribly yesterday. along with most of my army for the first 5 turns. Painful. Facing 2 Organ guns that you can't manage to kill for 7 turns and which keep rolling "10" on the artillery dice...yuk! Anyway, I am really pleased with this latest Saurus conversion. I feel like I've breathed some new life into that old plastic mini. My other converted Saurus champion (along with a Scar Vet BSB) were the MVPs of my army. Without them the game would have been too horrible to even mention.
That saurus is looking very good! Perfect blend between old and new, and the feathers are awesome! I wish I could sculp feathers. I also envy your terradons, mainly because I just wanna get my hands on them ^^
I have 2 more terradons as yet unassembled and I want them all made before I start painting any of them. Hopefully one of them, run as a chief, will help me deal with those Organ Guns! Running a unit of 5 with a champion and a chief could be fun every once in a while, but a lot of points. Sculpting the feathers wasn't too hard once I had those brass sheets cut into the proper shape (see the "before" photos a couple of posts ago). I actually did the feathers with spare bits of putty as I was going along with the other figures in the command group. Glad you see this guy as a mix between 5th and 7th edition - that's pretty much what I am shooting for with this army
Starting up a whole new unit of chameleons, so here is a photo of the first new one, taking aim with both hands for a steady shot: Really not easy getting his off hand to reach the blowpipe and not have the proportions off, but the degree to which the head projects forward on any kind of lizard makes this tricky. Hopefully it looks ok to you guys.
getting cooler and cooler all the time not much of the original mini left to see under there. love the new feet. very realistic. have you thought about converting the weird double thumbed hands that real chameleons have? will probably look shitty, but one can never know without trying
I feel ashamed of my own work now T'hinker'er... To think I mentionned I was happy about my own cameleon conversion now makes me ashamed of my lack of sculpting skills! Great work on this new unit!
Hey thanks everyone! That one was fun to make Trying to come up with ways to use the other skink castings as chameleons to add some variety to my units, and also just because I need more of these guys to deal with the ever mounting threat of Dwaven artillery. Last battle was an Organ Gun festival and I need to shut that nonsense down in my next game So here is the next one, still very much a W.I.P., but I think you'll like it: Check out what he's got in that bag SeBM: I like your chamo's too - keep at it! I might have to make some of my own blowpipes as well at some point. I'm down to my last few from the plastic skink box. Tsumani: I have thought about that but if I went that route these wouldn't fit in with the existing metal range (not to mention the plastic arms from the skink box), or the first batch, so I am sticking with the "3 fingers and a thumb" design. I wish I had done all the feet the way I'm doing these, but it's close enough that with flock it will hopefully mix together well enough.
