The other one is slightly more dynamic in the sense that his body is twisted to swing the big bat. I should have photos of that one by the end of the week.
I know it's been said many times, but wow, your miniatures are beautiful. I'm currently building my own old school lizardmen force and this thread is a real inspiration.
I'm really glad that you find it so. I love these older, beefy, chunky, stone cold expression lizardman models and can't wait to have them all painted. If this coming year is as productive as the one that just passed, I'll be very happy indeed. This week I was saddled with both a work crisis and an awful sinus cold, so it didn't turn out being too productive. Hopefully things will pick up over the weekend. Thanks for reading
These are really looking great! The back scales are very well done. It's such a treat to see a full wip of these, not just a start and finish. Looking forward to the next update! - Lord Cedric
I'm pretty anxious to get my hands on one or two. And almost as anxious to see these guys popping up in other people's painting logs. I think you, SeBM, or somebody else should host a painting compition for your kroxigor after they're released and after people have had some time to grab one. It's been a long road on these kroxigor alone. And I think everyone hanging around Painting and Converting has seen these guys; and you've gathered up more than enough followers and admirers of you and your kroxigor to get a good amount of entrys. A tribute contest to your skills and your kroxigor. And a well deserved one.
Thanks guys! I'd be very flattered to see a painting competition based on these! If folks are getting inspired to paint, that means I'm doing my job as a sculptor, which is very motivating. I've got a few ideas swirling around in my head on painting them too, so I'd ask that someone else run any eventual "competition", so that I can enter it too. Anyway, on to the other sculpt! Over the weekend I cut cut off his arms and tail and set them aside for finishing, while the torso gets its final layer of texture added. I have to say that it's always a bit nerve wracking to take out a saw and cut up a miniature like this, but unless you are making a one-off, or a miniature in a mainly 2 dimensional plane, you can't avoid this unpleasantness. Damn these dynamic poses! On the other hand, I always find it fascinating to see a cross section of my work after an amputation, with the bone (armature wire), muscle (hard putty) and skin (greenstuff detail layer) all clearly visible. So here's a photo that you guys might find interesting: And here are a couple WIP photos of the torso being textured, after about an hour's worth of work: A final shot from above, which is the angle you'd normally see this piece from when it's on the gaming table: Matching the other one in style, although not precisely, as there is always some variation in nature and I am trying to have a little fun with this project and not give in to my tendency/compulsion for perfectionism!
I'd like to enter myself as well, but I kind of feel obligated to host it now. I think it would be slightly rude of me to come up with the idea, then expect someone else to host it. So unless anyone is dying to host it or would prefer to host it, I'll do it. And honestly I'm not a bad candidate for the position in any case. For starters, I'm a new painter, and an average painter. So I probably won't win it anyway. Secondly, I'm currently really into the hobby and so are a lot of my close friends. So I find myself on these forums dailly. And I don't see that changing anytime soon. Although SeBM hosts that bi-monthly contest that is stickied, and he once said, around page 10 or so. So I don't want to steal his thunder and host this one just because I thought of it. If he'd like to, that's fine with me. He's kind of like the compition go to host around here. Although he hasn't been on lately to set up the voting for the one he is currently running. It's almost a month late now. I sure hope he is coming back soon.
I wish I could sculpt like that. I've been at it since I was 10, but I've never quite got it. How do you get it so smooth and clean?
Well, it's really just a matter of having some lubrication on the tools. I generally use petroleum jelly, but glycerin, water or spit all work too. Try a lighter touch with your tools as well. That might help. DanBot, thanks for your post. I wonder what happened to SeBM too. I hope everything's o.k. with him.
Thanks guys, I am putting the finishing touches on the last one over this coming weekend. Photos of the final greens will be posted here on Monday - I expect they will be available for purchase in February!
Wow! February? Really? I expected it to be March or April. Glad to here that. Let me know when and I'll start a contest thread. I'd like them to be for sale before I make a move just for safety's sake. Hate to have a problem occur and have the thread run cold for a few months and fall into the depths of forums never to be seen again. XP Maybe someone will sticky it!
I just want to clarify that once the minis leave my hands I don't have a lot of control over how quickly they are cast and made available. So February is not set in stone, but I will see what I can do with the various manufacturers, etc. Stay tuned and thanks for your interest and support!
Im a bit late on this one... But thats some amazing work! Going to get me some of those bad boys! How about those camo skinks? are they available?
Unfortunately no, the camo skinks are all one-offs. Probably should have made one or two castable so I could make more with less work. I may do that as a future project since a lot of people seem to want them...
