Painting bone??

Hey all!
Just wondering if anyone had tips for painting temple guard helmets to look like a good bone, I have tried a few times to no avail. Does anyone have any good experiences with the new contrast paint? I would probably like to add that the more simple the better as I am not a very skilled painter.

I use Skeleton Horde contrast paint (check out latest post in my painting log for an example) It's a bit heavy on color, but then again I've never mastered the art of "not too much paint on the brush"

It's definitely super simple though, one coat and you're good!

Skeleton Horde is a good contrast paint to use for sure. Some quick highlights or drybrush with some Screaming Skull then Wraithbone will make them look great

Yeah just a quick drybrush to pick up the raised areas. Proper highlights with a brush look cleaner and more defined so I usually go that route, but if you favour speed and ease then drybrushing is your friend.

I find the best recipe for bone without contrast paint (I don't have any contrast paints) is Rakarth Flesh base, Ushabti Bone highlight, Seraphim Sepia wash and another highlight of Ushabti Bone.

I go a similar route to Imrahil but start with a dark brown like Mournfang or Rhinox, then steel legion drab then Rakarth, then a brown wash then re-highlight with Rakarth and then a sparing highlight of Ushtabi Bone. Steel Legion onwards it is all drybrushing if I can and the deepest parts like the eyesockets or deep cracks I'll leave as the darker brown.
