I also like the way the terradons look as opposed to the rippers, i just think the rippers play better at clearing chaff and have the potential to screw with people's heads with the toads...
I feel that the scales are too similar to the skin. While separately, you can say that the painting looks good, with both skin and scales being almost identically coloured, it's hard to tell and it looks a bit "samey", if you get what I mean.
as for the purple steg i think im gonna work his scales up to a dirty palid wych flesh...ill use a sepia wash up top...which might look weird with the horns...hmmm....maybe i need to make those scales up top green...
I like the pat the purple on the bottom half looks so i dont really want to touch that...
okay so lets try this...tell tell me how I should paint the scales on the top of my purple steg and the 1st suggestion with 3 people that like it is how i will paint it...
I used probaly 3 or so colors to build up the red, (dark/medium/highlight) than I used the purple wash to blend everything together, hmm I hight have used the bal red or ogrim wash as well.
i can build up, its how i drybrush but yours is cleaner than mine...I know the washes clean it up, but i typically run 1 color as a base then wash, then drybrush over it ...its not the prettiest look but i like it
Hmmm... I do tend to use square flat brushes for layering and drybrushing...
I find they give you a little more control than a round brush for large scaley areas.
The edge highlighting seems a little harsh in comparison to the graduated blending between the orange and black -- you did a really good job on that by the way. I think a darker gray would have been better than the white or near-white.
