Painting my first army - Separate unit colors?

Also, I painted a model today and tried to add some white dots to the scales. Let me know which one you like better.

I think it's definitely an improvement, but instead of dots, I'd drybrush around the edges of the scales with a very light blue.

One other thing to be aware of is if you're going to add a highlight to the scales, you'll probably want to do a highlight on the red skin too. This way, the whole model has the same level of depth.

The dots are difeinately an improvement, but highlights would be good too.

I haven't posted in a while - work and mountain biking have been taking up most of my time.

I'm almost done with the second unit of Skink Skirmishers. I went with the same color scheme, but gave them yellow fins instead (still debating if I like it better or not). I also added some light blue drybrush to the scales, as previously recommended. I will post them once they're complete.

Next up is... wait for it... Chameleons!

I'm still on the fence for color schemes:

Option A: Same scheme - red skin, blue scales, and maybe add some color for the frogs.
Option B: Different scheme - probably yellow skin and orange scales - I'm not sure yet.
Option C: Rainbow colored unit - okay, not literally rainbow colored, but make each chameleon different (i.e. one orange, one blue, one yellow, etc.)

Feedback would be most appreciated!

Cheers

When I get around to mine, ill be painting them the colour of their surroundings, or as close to it as real chameleons would (withing artistic constraints)

I'm going to do the same with my Chamos than NexS1, but if those are the options, I would say B or C. If you wish to get them look more similar to your rest scheme or your afraid they look too much different than the rest of your color scheme, you can take for example the same red from your Skinks and combine it with some new color, like yellow or orange. I'm doing much color variations for my army, but I try to keep my main scheme dominant :)

what about painting the skin the blue grey colour you usually use for scales? it could look like camo as the sand on your bases is gray.

maybe you could add spots of streaks of dark jungle green on the skin, then colours (orange, yellow, bright green, red) on the frogs?

just a thought :smug:
