Yeah, definitely. It was surprisingly enjoyable (a far cry from the last time I did it).

I have three Rot Toads coming who will also be Beast of Nurgle proxies and then from there I'm not sure. I'm sure something will come to me. I'll probably end up repainting miniatures to replace the parts of my armies that I don't really like...

 

That would be a realy good next step. Making your impressive army even more impressive.

My 40mm square bases arrived!



So this weekend I will (carefully) switch over the Toads and do basings.

 

Okay, so the operation was a success. Now I just need to do the texture paint on the base and I'll call these guys a done.

Do I need to prime first with white before texture paint? Do I then do highlights after?

Did you manage to get them to rank up?

 

No, they each overlap a bit. I tried arranging it so one overlapped on the right and the other on the left, etc. But they just looked dumb. I'm gonna have a tray that's a bit too big, magnetize them and then get them as close as possible.

 

Did you try playing with levels to get them to fit?

 

No, but they're not that far apart so as far as I'm concerned they'll be fine.

 

So I'm going to prime the parts of the base that I can and then apply the technical paint. In the instructional videos I've watched, you just seem to kind of slop it on...

Any points of advice? Or should I just go for it and see what I get? (It doesn't really seem like it's going to make a huge difference, since the model covers most of the base anyways...)

 

I m not sure, haven't worked with these basing stuff before, let us know how it goes.

Yeah... Fair enough. I'll give it a try tonight. Do you normally paint the sides of the base?

 

It’s not required per say but I’d recommend priming first to give the paste something easier to adhere to. If you don’t have brush on primer then watered down pva glue would work as well iirc.

Are you using a crackle paint? If so I’d paint the base a dark brown too (Rhinox Hide for example) before applying the crackle paint so that there’s some color under the cracks.

A quick wash and drybrush will do wonders as well once the paste has dried.

I’d go over it with either a complimentary color or black to clean it up. You’ll probably get some splotches on the rim while applying the paste!

 

What he said. I normally go with Maurnfang Brown or Rinox Hide.

If you are using crackle paint, put down a layer of PVA glue first. It will give you much larger and more impressive looking cracks.

I've got a GW technical paint. Is that a crackle paint?

I'm not sure if I have a brown, I need to go check later.

 

What is the name of it?

 

The 3D printed Rot Toads I ordered arrived. Not too impressed with the details as it seems like they will very easily lose the folds, etc.

Bah...

Anyways, these will be next once I get round to doing the basing on the others.

 

Sad thing, that they didn't came conform your expectations. Hopefully with some paint they might blent in nice with your other Rod toads.
