Chameleon skinks are arguably the best scouting unit in the game. I will take at least 2 units of 5 for every game that I play. With a BS of 4 (base hitting at 3), you can march them 12 inches and still hit at long range with the doubletap on 5+ (6+ with cover). Now, with that in mind, you can start them 12 inches from your intended target. If your opponent denies you the back field, you can still start them 12 inches from the deployment line. You then march them toward the target (think war machine), giving you a chance to take out that war machine on your first turn.
On top of that, they are skirmishers (-1) and chameleons (-1). If you find some cover for them, even better. These guys also harass your opponent very well. This past weekend, a lone (fleeing) chameleon blocked a charge that would have utterly destroyed a unit of TG (already in combat).
