Okay so quick question about pursuit and overrun regarding lizzies. So saurus warriors that destroy a unit on the turn they charge and there is no skink character within six inch, do they have to make an overrun thanks to their predotary fighter rule? It says they can't restrain pursuit but if you read the overrun rules it says it is essentially a special pursuit move. I can't seem to find a clear answer on this. Sorry if this has been asked before
No worries. The Predatory Fighter rule stats that they cannot choose to restrain pursuit, unless like you say there is a Skink character within 6 inches. In the BRB, it says: "If the losing unit failed it's Break test, it must flee, but the winning unit now has a choice of actions. It can pursue the foe... Alternatively, the victorious unit can attempt to stand fast..." With normal troops, you can pursue or stand (but you have to pass a leadership test to do so). With Predatory Fighter, you can ONLY choose to pursue UNLESS there is a Skink Character in 6 inches. We do still take the leadership test on 3D6 so at least you have a very likely chance of passing. Overrun is a term when you wipe out ALL of the opposing unit in one combat and you can then choose to move 2D6 directly forwards. It specifically says: "All other rules governing pursuit moves, such as intervening units and terain, apply to overruns." so per this, you'd still need to pass leadership test and Pred Fighters would still need Skink Character within 6". Hope this clarifies.
@Pieter Smeyers I must disagree with my good friend @Lizards of Renown So the Predatory Fighter rule reads: In a normal situation where an enemy breaks, the following procedure is followed: the winning unit(s) have the option to either pursue or test to restrain pursuit if they elect to pursue, then they conduct the pursuit move as normal if they elect to restrain pursuit, they must pass a leadership to do so (this is where the predatory fighter rule kicks in) if there is Skink character within 6", the unit with PF may attempt to restrain... if they pass their leadership test, they don't pursue and may reform, if they fail, they must pursue if a unit has the PF rule and there is no skink character with 6", it cannot attempt the leadership test and must pursue In the case of charging a unit and completely wiping it out first turn, we are dealing with a different procedure: the winning side may choose to overrun or hold/reform there is no leadership test required!! The Predatory Fighter rule (when the Skink Priest/Chief criteria is not met) only prevents you from attempting a leadership test to restrain pursuit. In the case of an overrun, there is no need to make a leadership test (the owning player gets to choose if they want to overrun or not), so the Predatory Fighter rule never comes into play. In the case of the Frenzy special rule, it is directly stated that the Frenzied unit must make a pursuit move (if the unit breaks) or an overrun move if the unit is wiped out. The Predatory Fighter rule in no way asserts this stipulation.
