7th Ed. Question on Unit Size?

I am new to WHFB but I have the BRB and the new Lizardmen AB.

So I was playing around with placing a Skink Chief on a terradon mount in my army and I wanted to join him with a unit of terradons. Then the question arose about whether or not he counted as towards the 3+ minimum unit size?? And I couldnt find the answer in the rulebooks.

As my army is going to be 1000pts, these points being freed up elsewhere would be nice if I only had to take 2 ridrs and my Skink Chief, intead of 3 riders and him.

So do characters added to a unit count towards the minimum unit size?

No, the character is not a part of the unit so you need 3 guys and then you can add the character to it.
