8th Ed. Quick magic item question

Hi guys going to have my first legal Battle rather than a mess about battle , right I have an old blood, I have added a great weapon, how does it work if I use a magic weapon also? I have given him the scimitar of the sun resplendent, does he now gain +2 strength and +2 attacks? Or is it one or the other? Help greatly appreciated as battling in the morning thanks!!!!

If you also give him a magic weapon he has to use it instead of the great weapon.

Cheers mate, don't suppose if u know the answer to this one.... I'm fighting skaven and my opponent has a doom bell, which I think is a lord, if it's with clann rats does it then become core??? We are struggling to get his core points up, too many lords due to vermin lord and bell!!!

Another question, if my old blood is in a unit of Saurus, and I am fighting say a unit of clan rats, can he kill more than the one clann rat he is in base contact with with or can he kill as many as his attacks allow? the in base contact rule confuses me sometimes!

in short, yea he can possibly kill as many rats as he has attacks.

The step up rule in 8th edition means that as he kills them, they step right up to the slaughter! If he has 5 attacks that hit and wound, he kills 5 rats.
