8th Ed. Quick question

I know this may sound a bit stupid, but if you take the maiming shield as part of your magical items, do you still have to spend out for a shield for a scar-vet? getting an extra attack seems so much better than having a standard shield, but then again, does the maiming shield still confer +1 to the armour save?

Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

Yea this has been asked before,
Magic shield of all types are still shields and add to your armor save.
(So no, you don't need to but a regular one as well)

But generally the maiming shield is a bad buy. Real defensive magic items and/or magic weapons are almost always a better choice.

I actually forgot to check out the armour in the main rulebook, swapping out the maiming shield with an enchanted shield (giving him a 2+ AS) and dawnstone.

I was thinking that, but with the burning blade, it'll make it harder for enemies AS, and improving my AS makes him more durable, and with a 1K battle, 4 attacks would be sufficient.

Yeah, Maiming Shield lets you build an Oldblood with 9 Attacks. Maybe not the most strategic build, but he'll tear rank and file to pieces.

Depends on what you use your scar vet for, if you want a glass cannon to cleave through hordes of plague monks or something this build is good. If you wan to fight a enemy lord of any sort, vampire, daemon prince, monster, or anything armored this old blood would be dead fast

Yeah, I like durable units, so I've never actually fielded an Oldblood or Scarvet like this...but oh, how I want to see one of these mini-monsters single-handedly stomp a horde of enemies into the bloody dust!
