I think the backpack and the helmet lack a bit of contrast to make the details stand out. Otherwise the model looks pretty cool already.

I know exactly what you mean and I was tempted to do white helmets across the full squad and have black helmets for HQ, I may still do that but not sure.

That's the reason I gave the HQ white chest plates to try and break up the black but not sure if that has made it worse tbh.

The Templars look great! The dude with the cape looks especially huge, the new primaris captains need to lay off the donuts.

He his hood almost looks like a librarian psyker hood?? [heresy]

I thought the same but they do tolerate psykers a tiny tiny bit well almost

Maybe instead of just going with a flat black, you could use your airbrush to go with a dark, dark, dark metallic grey? That way, you could also use your airbrush to apply lighter metallic "streaks" across the armor that could represent shine? It would also work for highlighting the edges of the armor very nicely as well.

As far as the while goes, I'd say put a base coat of a light grey down and then airbrush white on top, leaving only the slightest hint of grey at the edges of the armor's recessed areas. The cape, of course, doesn't need to be as crisp and would look much better with a good deal of gradation.

Ok so I took on the challenge of sorting out my forge world Slann for a couple of reasons.

1. I was never happy with the paint job I did on it.
2. @Slannta's Little Helper comp gave me a good reason to revisit it and get it sorted.

So I decided to convert it, yes it is a rare and costly model but I was never happy with the pose etc so what better time.

Before the conversion work.

I first primed it grey so I could have a blank canvas for the conversion work, working from a Total Warhammer 2 image I set about trying to recreate our mighty leader. Using various parts from other Seraphon kits and a bit of poor greenstuff work this is what I ended up with.

The biggest problem was his mace, I used parts from the knights banner, Saurus guard weapon and Stegadon blow pipes, I had to remove his hand and turn it through 90 degrees as well.
