Returning to the game after some time off. Hooray. Still very new, learning the rules etc but I used to be a very competitive WMH player.

Thoughts on this? Not sure where Items should go

The Carnosaur in your list is a bit of an odd choice, yes. Not that he isn't awesome, he just doesn't synergize well with the rest.
I would indeed take a Slann. Slanns are HUGE in this edition.

Shadowstrike with Rippers is always a good choice, and so are Bastiladons.

Your star seer is not useful at all in this list beside the carnosaur. I would drop both for a slann and some melee troops.

As others have stated the Carny and Starseer don't synergize well with the rest of your units, replace the Carny with a Slann drop the Starseer and bulk out other units, Slann can summon in skinks easily etc.

That is one excellent looking army! A noob painting question. Do you paint all the bits before you glue them together or only for the bigger models with howdahas like the bastilidons?

Ahh fielding 2k, just wait until your looking at a 8k plus army, yes it will happen.
