Revell Aqua Color Messing Brass?

I've pretty much always used GW paints however they've changed the golds around and I'm struggling to find anything to match my old shining gold.

I bought Revell Aqua Color Messing Brass from a model shop and I'm confused. It's basically SME green slime with a few brass pigments (which match great) but what am I missing?

Am I supposed to paint on the 'slime' or just the brass? Does it need a base coat of something brown to make the colour?

Try shaking the bottle vigorously, it will probably change color.
