Excellent detailing and precise painting, only one thing I can comment on and that is his bottom lip, lips are a slightly darker colour than skin but this is a miniscule detail and I would not go back in and do it.

As I said excellent finishing, I really like your painting style and I was wondering if you have the Angel Giraldez books?

Yeah I think the timing is perfect, I have some forgeworld basing pieces and loads of industrial gantry/ladders etc

I got them off ebay, he covers everything and combines airbrush/brush so might be good for you but be warned this guy is seriously good and will make you feel bad about your painting.

Might look them up at some point after Deathwatch are done. Going to work on some freehand for the Dreadnaught as I have a month until the next painting competition and the theme is "customised vehicles" - so feel a nice paint job on a Dreadnaught counts.

Meh, pricey as heck on eBay - not sure I'd get anything from them that I couldn't work out myself / learn online...

True but I prefer to have a book on my desk to flick through, I've not used my airbrush productively yet so I'm hoping to get that sorted soon.

Magnetised to the base. Arms not glued so I can change them/magnetise properly later. Plain panels selected for this freehand stuff I have planned....

Based dried, sealed and cleaned up... These guys are good to go for their priming now.

Arms aren't glued so I can remove them completely for painting purposes. Going to paint all the shoulder pads separately. I need a good method for attaching some kind of holding-stick type thing to them... Some bent garden wire superglued on perhaps?

I've done a bitz swap for a couple of fur cloaks for the guys who are joining from the space wolves for a minor conversion, so the rest are in various stages of incompleteness... I'll work through them tonight and get as many done and ready to go as I can.

I use paperclips with superglue and stick that in a cork for little fiddly bits, if they are bigger I drill them first so the paperclip sticks better.

Do you find that sticks well enough? I should give that a go... If I can find a cork or something to stick it into.

Or a paperclip for that matter.

The deathwatch look good so far, what chapters are they going to wind up being?

It's a work in progress... I think the eye socket needs to be bigger.

Potentially. If you're going for realism, it probably needs to be wider vertically, but if you're going for stylistic - it looks great the way it is.

Edit: it looks angular and menacing forboding/angry.

Thanks, I was going for angry rather than rounded, so maybe I'll leave it as it is and just touch it up a little bit tonight before starting on the other panel.
