8th Ed. salamander becoming obsolete?

DanBot said:
I'm not surprised to find out that they are not removing them from game play. I would never expect to see that from GW. When orgres started saying "our mage's shield is classified as armor so our mages can bring magic armors?" GWs reply was "Yes, not what was intended. And and not fair game play. They can bring magic armors but you should not do it,"
Maybe Jervis should stop being a game dev if he doesn't spot a rule that's existed for at least 2 editions.
Or maybe the Devs should actually play-test the games that they make. To be perfectly honest, I can't see how a big monster wizard wearing magic armor is more against the spirit of the game than a corpse wizard wearing magic armor, or a viking wizard wearing magic armor. You also can't stick an Ogre on a dragon to boot.
And more to the point, instead of righting a paragraph apologizing over nothing, further up in the Errata section they could have added "Add the following to the Slaughtermaster/Butcher profile: Note: Although a Slaughtermaster/Butcher may take an Ironfist, they may not take magic armor." Because that's what the Errata section is for. Correcting minor mistakes.

Anyway, I am hoping that they are obsolete in that they will be replaced by new models (my understanding is that no one really likes that model anyway).
I like them with the side-frills over the top-frill. It shows its age, but there's many worse models out there (*cough*Greater Daemons*cough*).

Hehe greater daemons... But to be honest, I much prefer the old krox model with the very distinctive T.rex jaw.

I'd be surprised at how sour this thread got, but hey - it's the Internet.

As for the models, I'm giddy with excitement. My ideal situation would be that plastic kits are released (you know you'll get a profit out of it, GW - everyone and their dog needs Salamanders and Slann!), but Finecast would be good, too. That said, I'm really hoping for a Salamander resculpt - the current ones look like the cheap rubber dinosaur toys I used to play with as a child.

This is pretty distressing, since I'm attending a tourney this weekend at my local game store, and I ordered a sally for my buy in. Bad thing is, one more sally is about all I really need at this point. Guess I'm going to find out the hard way if they really aren't available. I'll let you know Monday.

... it's there for me. says ships within 24 hours, too.

Interesting. I am using the US page. But If I switch it to UK or AUS then the Sally is still there. Maybe they are no longer shipping to North America?

Yeah I ahd just noticed this and did some research and Dark Elf Executioners and Witch Elves also not on site anymore as well.

would that suggest that GW are putting out finecast models of the Slann, Sally, Executiioners and Witch Elves? i noticed just before they announced the 145 paint range they pulled all the painting guides from the GW site, so maybe that's why.

EDIT: sorry for the repeat, just read the first page of the thread. hopefully it'll happen - who knows when though.

Yes! I have been waiting for a plastic slann for the longest time! Does anybody notice anything else that's missing?

Witch Elves and Executioners are definitely going to be plastic but I hadn't expected that to happen for a while yet.

There haven't been any rumours of new Lizardmen but we did get that plastic Scar-Vet from out of the blue. What we get in plastic and what will be Finecast is anyone's guess but I'd put Slann as a very likely Finecast and Salamander/Razordon as a probable plastic kit. Or we are only getting Finecasts this time. I'm always hoping for plastic but some of the Finecast models have been positively amazing (once you get a good mould that is  ).

I'll buy a hat and then eat it if the Sallies and Razors go plastic rather than Finecast.
And I'll buy a whole suit and eat it if we get a plastic Slann.

A finecast saurus I understand; but our slann doesn't have scales or anything that really need the quality of finecast. Although I guess the slann's seat would benefit from finecast. Opinions?

When the palaquin and slann are mounted on the flying clear stick and base it is very top heavy which is a reason that many modelers place rocks and other heavy decorative objects on its base which helps, but makes it even heavier. Mine almost seems flimsy but it's not, just heavy. Personally I would welcome plastic and/or Finecast for our Slann. Even though I have 3 (2 being the most recent models), I would seriously consider getting the plastic version just to have the safer portability of the model and lighten up my case some.

Those who guessed a switch to Finecast, guessed right - complete with obligatory price rises (for the most part). Compliments of Darnok at Warseer.

Lizardmen

Chakax ... 8,20 > 11 ... +34%
Kroak ... 25,50 > 30 ... +18%
Tiktaq'to ... 10,75 > 16 ... +49%
Slann ... 23,50 > 30 ... +28%
Skink with Feather Cloak ... 7,70 > 9,50 ... +23%
Saurus with Battle Standard ... 10,75 > 15 ... +40%
Salamander Pack ... 15,50 > 18,50 ... +19%
Razordon Pack ... 15,50 > 18,50 ... +19%
Terradon ... 10,75 > 31,50 (this seems to be a pack of 3: -3%)
Chameleon Skinks ... 8,70 > 15 (this better be a set of 5...)
Chameleon Stalker ... 6,15 > 8 +30%
Kroxigor ... 13,80 > 31,50 (this seems to be a pack of 3: -24%)

Note: these are FC re-releases. All prices in pound sterling. All increase percentages based on the previous price, and mathematically rounded.

£30GBP for a Finecast Slann >.> Nearly £20 for a single Salamander, meanwhile Camo skinks have nearly doubled in price. How much longer can GW get away with this?

On the other hand, at least its not as bad as Dark Elves - their special choices, thanks to the Finecast switch, now cost over £80 per unit.

Well, saurus scar vet sells for about $60 in AUS.... I think that is around £40? GW pricing here is ridiculous. To those in US or UK, you can easily sell GW models at a profit via eBay to us here in AUS, and I won't complain one bit.

Thanks for sharing Clockwork.

Finecast is way better than metal to work with and much lighter which means less battle damage so I don't mind paying extra for it. Too bad I recently got the metal Slann and Chameleons. I did hold off on the Kroxigors and Terradons though so I will be much more likely to get those now.

For the Dark Elves the news are pretty grim though, Finecast rank and file means much needed plastic versions of those troops are a long way off.

Really? I can't find a scar vet for $60- on foot is $22 and on cold one is $28...I'm in Australia too btw :) Did you mean a slann?

But I agree with your point that they are overpriced here in Australia :)
