The model will be lacquered with a matt finish, the warpstone glow could be thinned to make a glaze use lahmian medium try a mix ratio of 5/1 part paint and test.
Indeed I was given that box as a present like a hundred years ago, it was my first contact with the miniature world. I'm planning to adapt my army to a Brotherhood army, i really don't like Kingdoms of Man or the others. My 6th edition army was a very different Bretonnian army, i only had one unit of Knights and only because I was forced to, it was mainly a peasant army and I loved it. I actually had to buy more Knights and pegasus just for KoW
Will do! My first contact too! I fell in love with the Bretonnians at first (who doesn't love knights, maidens, chivalry and all that jazz!?), but then the 'different-ness' of the Lizardmen won me over and I couldn't countenance collecting any other army. I've already created the first draft of a Brotherhood list that I'm going to start collecting models towards, although I fully expect the list to change as I start to play test it with cardboard squares. I would have loved to have gone down the knights and peasants route, but the knowledge I've gained from my Salamanders battles suggests the lists I was putting together wouldn't have consistently won games. As such it's ended up as knights and Water Elementals (two hordes and one Greater to be exact), with the only Villeins being two troops of Villein Reconnoiterers to shield the hammers.
I guess I'm just addicted to fluffy lists. I don't really mind loosing as long as I get to win sometimes and be satisfied with my army. I like to take a concept and make it work even against the odds, my Bretonnian army is still unbeaten to this day (won a tournament with them even) and my skink army got a second place due to a last turn mistake against one of my usual opponents. KoW is still new to me compared to the experience I had playing Warhammer but I hope to do well in the new league season that is starting.
There's nothing wrong with fluff! I can perfectly understand the sentiment, but I tend to be of a more competitive bent, as are my friends. I've said it on the Mantic Forums before, but when we're playing we essentially put our friendship on hold for the duration of the game. And after each game we sit down for anything up to an hour discussing the battle, the decisions taken, potential army list tweaks and alterations, envisaged strategies / tactics and how they played out etc. etc., all with the aim of improving in the next game. If trying to make a Villein army work I'm not sure 'against the odds' would cover it! The whole list is based around knights giving them Rallying (and Villein's are costed as such!), so without that they'd be stuffed! Not to pre-step in for the mods but no can do unfortunately - the Round Table is for things like that
And there was me thinking that this section of the forum was called 'Salamanders Discussion'! Silly me!
Correct, but it is also the only general discussion board for the game system on the forum. Ergo, other armies may come up, and should be discussed in a separate topic to salamander color schemes
Yeah, but this thread hasn't been about Salamander colour schemes from about the second post. As no one had anything close to a relevant response it basically turned into my painting WIP thread and has been a cracking laugh chatting about loads of stuff (some of it not even miniature wargaming related! ). And as we're now on the seventh page I'm guessing people seem to be enjoying the ride! p.s. if you're going to get pedantic about stuff you should probably have written 'salamander colour schemes', because I've written it in proper English in the title
That's why I've bought too expensive miniatures to complete my army. I just hope my wife never finds out how much those shinny and opp bretonnian minis cost....
Hahaha I'm in exactly the same boat! Although this does mean that we're probably bidding against each other on Bretonnian things and pushing each others prices up... No fun! Haha I know! I was getting ready to chew ass and kick bubblegum.
Maybe a couple of months ago, my hunt for Bretonnian things is finished, apart from a single Pegasus Knight, to finish my Horde/2 Regs of Forsakens, my quest to finalise my collection is completed. Maybe will post a picture of the collection if I have the time. Can't promise anything though.
For those that have the old 5th edition starter set with Brets vs Lizardmen, or other models from this era, the old sauruses make very nice unblooded, as they are smaller than the more recent kits. Also, you can probably thanks the skinks with short bows from this box for the ghekko hunters bow option, the RC was asking during the beta for models from any manufacturer that might fit the theme and not have an appropriate profile and we were a few to mention ghiekkos with bows from both this set and some D&D miniatures.
Only as long as it is on the correct thread on the correct forum! Otherwise I will be very angry. That is indeed what I have done! I've gone for actual Salamanders for the salamanders though, and I'll look to get as many of the 'correct' models as possible into the army (if they don't look too derpy) once they finally get released.
Here are a few pics of my fiery lizards: I use Vallejo's models colors. A base of Bright orange, washed with black wash and drybrushed again with Bright orange. I then drybrush 3 layers of mixes of Bright orange and Flat yellow, increasing the amount of the latter each time.
