8th Ed. scar vet in lance formation

I'm going the the double weekend in May, I am taking lizards and my friend is taking britonia. As far as I know it since we are trusted alliance I can put my characters in his unit, but if i put a Scar vet on a horned one in his knight unit would I be able to go into the lance formation or would it not be allowed.

Also just a little question, do 'common' magic items (the one ones listed in the box in the BRB before magic weapons) have any significance like multple characters can take them.

I would say that no you couldn't use the lance as the Cold one doesn't have this rule, therefore the whole unit wouldn't have it. Its just like if you put a skink chief in a chamo unit for example, because the chief doesn't have the scout rule the unit cannot scout, despite chamos normally being able to.

As far as common magic items go, i think you can still only have one of each, common just means every army has access to them.
