Haha, the skink chief in a group of 18 saurus with FC and some armor ends up being 343 points. 38 str 4 attacks later (yes, the skink chief is a strong as a kroxigor...) with hatred against skaven clanrats should statistically hit 26 times, wound about 16 times and kill off 13 to 14....

Of course, this is based on you getting charged and not losing anyone. That alone, plus the 3 ranks, banner and bsb gives you 18 to 19 combat res...

It would certainly be a fun unit to run sometime. It isn't that spendy either so you could conceiviably get a Saurus Char to run with some CoC with the BBoC set up.

Some skirmishers and maybe a salamander or to plus another small saurus unit if you have the points. Could be a fun list to play.

Frenzy helps out against other armies too, in case you're thinking about using this in a tournament or something.

What about Skink BSBs vs. Saurus BSBs? Skinks are quite obviously cheaper, but is there anything else? Especially in 1000pt games (mostly what I am playing now).

Their base cost difference is 30 pts. For those 30 pts the Scar vet gains a massive stat increase (+2T, +1S, +1A, +1WS, +1LD), at the cost of Move, which won't matter as you are almost always on a cold one or flying or in a unit with m4 anyway, -5 BS which doesnt matter cause the saurus cant get any ranged weapons anyway, and -3 In which is a shame but the scar vet stat line is still light years ahead.

Not only is the Scar vet a faaar superior fighter but also have much better defensive stats. Without magic items a skink can get a 5+ save at best while the scar vet has 1+ save if you mount him on a CO. Resilience is a very important part of a BSB and the chief BSB just doesnt have it unless you put him on a stegadon with some ward save item.

I've found that for character hunting, a good combination is this:
    Skink Chief
    -Terradon
    -LA
    -Shield
    -Bane Head
    -Piranha Blade

If you wound him even once (provided that that's the character you chose for Bane Head), he'll take 4 (!) wounds!

    What do you think?

actually, the saurus can get the staff of the lost sun, but he needs 7's to hit without applying penalties!

also, a skink character hunter can be nice on papper, but when you need to cause 4 wounds to kill a character its probably one that will not be easly wounded by 3 S4 attacks, if at all...
he might be a good mage hunter with piranha blade but he's probably good at that without it. also the bane head is usally more usefull on the slann if he gets lore of metal

No he can't since he has a BS of 0 which means that he can't use a ranged weapon. Se page 5 of the (small) rulebook under "characteristics of 0"

I have used a skink on a terradon with light armour, sword of might and shield as a warmachine hunter and he has done pretty well.
