8th Ed. Skink scrimishers screaning Salamanders

So I was thinking about a possibly tactic to screen salamanders as they advance through the battle line of war machines and shooty armies.

Slann w/ Plaque of Protection, Sunstandard, Soul of Stone in a unit of skink scrimishers. Behind them are the Salamanders.

The idea is, make it hard to get at the salamanders and hard to kill the skinks for a round or two. I wouldn't be doing this vs most armies, just the ones that like to bunker.

It's be cheaper to run minimal units of regular skinks. You still have thrown weapons w/ poison and it'll cost you twenty points less to run a screen.
