On the subject of not using the javelin in CC, this is why you only get the jungle poisons when shooting. Believe me, I'd love to auto-wound on 6's in CC with my skinks! BTW, where is it written that you cannot parry/ward save in CC with a magic shield? We play it that a shield is a shield is a shield...
It's in the magic item section of the BRB "a magic shield is treated as a normal shield, but cannot be used alongside a hand weapon to gain a parry save" On page 174 in the little rulebook
Wow.. I think that particular rule is about as useful as nipples on a breastplate.. along with the terrain "random" rules that our group will just chuck out the window. Seriously, why the heck can't you use a magical shield the same as a normal sheild in terms of parry. - Lord Cedric
no idea, you canĀ“t use a magic weapon with a normal shield to get the parry either, or use it with an additional handweapon to get an extra attack
OK, this is good to know. Noting that in addition to its magical properties, the Charmed Shield still give you the protection of a normal shield in other ways (does grant an additional pip of armor save), but is apparently too fragile to block/parry with, so no ward save. Less disincentive now to take it with a 2HW. Obviously this is a balance thing and makes no sense from a fluff POV, but whatever...
its not like it is a new rule. has been in there since 7th edition (when the bonus armour save from hand weapon + shield was incorporated). might actually have been in 6th edition... cant remember.
The poison rule does indeed refer to all attacks, but the special lizardmen 'jungle poison' rule states that it only works on ranged attacks. So, no jungle poison in close combat. Venom of the firefly Frog works for CC-poison. And IIRC jungle swarms too, those are your only options for CC-poison The Hunted
